(8,694 posts)Posting on Twitter. He has a secondary source. Very interesting. She was definitely wrong about the date. It was not Xmas eve, but 12/21. Still looking for photographer.

(6,324 posts)And unless you have a way to be sure that it was, since the vast majority of cameras out there are not, you cant say anything definite about the dates.
People are going way down the conspiracy rabbit hole here and ignoring basic common sense like the fact that EXIF data is only as good as what was programmed into the cameras internal processor for date and time.

(6,012 posts)With the unboxing, or battery replacement date as the default starting point. In my experience the default starting date is almost always substantially in the past, meaning if I don't reset the date, pictures will be time-stamped as being quite a bit in the past. To attribute this mismatch of dates to an unset clock in the camera requires that this camera must have been unboxed exactly 3 days after it's default date, which is probably sometime in 2003 when it was released, and had never had its clock set in the intervening 3.5 years.
My guess is that the default date is Jan 01 2003, the first day of the year it was released. Since the camera was first available in July, that would make this situation impossible. This doesn't discount the fact that the camera could have been set to the WRONG date, but I think that it's pretty unlikely that a camera that was not set up would give this date by coincidence.

(14,157 posts)You need to have permission to photograph.

(32,379 posts)So the military gave permission for Franken to stage that? Next it will be the military has to give you permission to go to the bathroom. Methinks you have never been in the military.

(14,157 posts)Pictures on Air Force Flight Line and inside military aircraft have to be authorized by installation and/or Aircraft Commander.

(32,379 posts)So you replied to someone who knows better. So you are saying an AF commander approved the staging of the Franken photo. Or are you saying the photo is fake even though Franken has apologized for it?
itsrobert
(14,157 posts)Permission has to be granted for any photography on a aircraft or Flight line. Just because a commander authorized photography does not mean the commander knew about this particular picture. USO show tours are often documented by professional photographer. I don't understand your question. I neither stated it was fake or staged. It appears to be an immature goof. However, you can't tell me that shows she was groped, because Franken's hands are clearly not on the vest. A professional photographer, would not have the time/date stamp not set correctly.
womanofthehills
(8,913 posts)esp. if they plan to publish anything. The metadata also said "no flash" - so why does Al have all the shadows around him? You are not going to get shadows like that in flat light. As a professional photographer, I enlarged the photo and it definitely looks messed up - why would part of Al's finger be cut off? I think someone probably moved Al's hands closer to her breasts.

(17,984 posts)We saw the picture. It was staged to make it look like Franken was groping, but he was NOT touching her. But that pic was used alongside her story about Franken forcibly kissing her. Franken says he doesn't remember it like that, but he'll give her the benefit of the doubt and apologize. Nothing here adds up. It's obvious they are trying to make a nothingburger into a Royal with cheese.
Tweeden has backed down. I think she may be getting afraid of what will happen to her if she continues to push this. On the other hand, the people who set her up are willing to throw her under the bus if it means making Franken look bad. If they keep pushing, I think Tweeden will have to recant. Already we have the pics of her grabbing the guitarist and humping Robin Williams. She may just have to (I hope she has to) backtrack and out those who set her up. Even if it's just Hannity, at least that asshole will be taken down a notch, and maybe Faux Nooze will lose some credibility with the nut jobs.
Franken knew what would happen and openly called for an investigation into his behavior. Now the ball is in the wingers' court and Tweeden is about to be sacrificed. Wonder what will happen to that book deal when she outs the nasties.

(20,219 posts)It's enough for me to know she's a blatant, lying, trumpanzee POS, and that there's plenty of evidence backing that up. AND plenty of evidence showing Al is brilliant and has high scores for integrity. Pukes are afraid of him.

(58,785 posts)over half the planet's wealth concentrated in the hands of a few and they're doing nothing to prevent the Democratic Party from getting enough power to take it away? Obama was able to make a real start, even with a Republican congress, and Hillary had every intention of continuing, as would her successor if Democrat. It's been done before, and they know that too well.
That said, keeping us out of power is an existential need for BOTH our own wannabe kleptocrats and Putin's gang. They're pulling the same direction and of course very much know it.

(18,169 posts)We don't really need the Russikies to teach us anything about digging up political dirt. We've been trashing each other since Jefferson / Adams. Seems the Russians are just better at social media than we. Ironic as well since we invented it.
Jim Lane
(11,175 posts)Tweeden said what she said for her own reasons (likely related to the Alabama Senate race). Her statements were seized upon and promoted by people who found them politically useful.
That's the simplest explanation. It fits the facts very well without any need to invoke Russian intel as the guiding force.
If all you mean is that some Russian sources helped pus the story, then I can agree. Some Russians, like Fox News, would be in the category of people who found her statements politically useful.

(291 posts)I like Al Franken, and do not want to go down the conspiracy theory rabbit hole. The photo looks like little more than a bad joke, I mean they guy wasn't chasing underage girls in a mall to the point he was thrown out. This is simply not at the same level. What is even more outrageous is all the evangelicals still backing the guy in Alabama. We shouldn't even be talking about this, we need to go after the complete hypocrisy of these guys. That is the rabbit that needs to be chased down.

If we lose the ability to discern the truth we are truly lost as a nation
Ironically, Ross Perot warned us about this in 1992 ... when he withdrew from the presidential race,
sort of linking it to fake images of his daughter - pho-toes as he called them - generated or threatened
to be generated by the opposition campaign (GHWB). At least that is what I remember.
