Got a guy with a bit of a Hispanic accent.
He tried his best to sell me more services that
1. I don't need, and
2. Can't afford.
Eventually we got my problem fixed.
"Unplug the box for 10 seconds. etc, etc,etc
Why didn't I think of that?
It worked.
Reception back.
"Where are you?"
"Mexico."
"Really? Where?"
Something I couldn't understand.
"Where?"
"It's a very small town."
"Bless your heart. What do you think about the wall that tRump wants to build?"
"Thank you. Can I help you with anything else?"
Poor bastard.

That's why he didn't depart from the script too much.

(21,044 posts)Their software upgrade sucked and my hopper crashed several times. It finally got stabilized. I called several times to complain and kept asking for a supervisor and I finally got an American voice.

(62,373 posts)After 2 years of slimy shit and fuckups I paid to get away from Direct they were so fucking bad. Never so happy as I was when I got Dish back.

(21,044 posts)Over the software upgrade. Was in Costco recently and the guy offered me a cheaper package but upon reflection decided to stay where I am with dish.

(5,292 posts)1) Before I couldn't take it anymore, my DVR would crash while on vacation, so I would miss several of my shows. I would do the power cycle trick, and then it would work for a short time. When I told them I wanted a new box because this one wasn't reliable, they refused on the grounds that it wasn't broken at that moment. My entreaties that waiting until I got back from vacation to find out that it has broken again went on deaf ears, as I spent an hour escalating the issue, finally telling them that if they didn't send me another box, I was going to cancel the service and fight the "early termination fees," as they had not provided the service they'd promised. They did finally send me a new DVR, warning me about charges if I didn't send the bad one back. Like I'd want to keep it.
2) A few months after this, I discovered my bill has gone up significantly. After some time on the phone, I found out that my account had been crammed. Without my permission (or knowledge), they'd signed me up for "Premium Channels," with a teaser period, which had expired. After the third time they used the scripted line "So you want to cancel the HBO, Starz, and Showtime you've been enjoying for the last three months," I reminded her that I had NOT enjoyed them, as I had not ordered them, nor even known they were there. They eventually removed them and reversed the charges.
3) When travelling, I frequently would use up the maximum consecutive connections, only to discover that one of my shows would have been pre-empted by a house ad from Dish trying to sell me some new channel or pay-per-view movie, so I would have missed one of my shows, and there was nothing they could do about it.
4) Seven years ago, I switched primary residences. Since I was no longer going to be at this location often, I went with a lower-cost package from the phone company (which I had avoided when I'd lived here full-time, because I didn't want a single point of failure for my entertainment). When I called Dish to cancel, they wanted me to climb the roof and retrieve their Standard-def dish for them. I informed them that I park in the blue zones and it was ridiculous for them to expect a handicapped person to climb up on the roof, but I would make the house available for them to send someone out to retrieve it. It's still there, and will probably stay there until the next time I re-roof the place.
The new place has had DirecTV, and in the last seven years I have not had a problem.
you seriously never thought of unplugging the box? Scheduling your geezer ass for a righteous ass kicking....you are WAY overdue; yes INDEED

(395 posts)I used to work at Dish network about 13 years ago as a customer/technical service rep there, so practices might have changed, but I doubt it. While I was there, calls are being monitored and reviewed at random. If the employees talks about certain topics outside what the call's purpose, the employee gets a flagged on their evaluation. Even talking calls that lasted longer than 6 minutes with a customer was consider bad. Too many bad marks on your evaluation could lead to employee termination and they would fire a lot of people.
I only work there part time for about 10 months, but I could tell you some awful stories there. It was by far the worst corporate job that I ever had and I worked at some terrible companies in my lifetime. Walmart, Kmart, Radio Shack, don't hold a candle compared how bad they treat their workers there. The company would fire employees over the littlest of things. You get reprimanded if you use the bathroom over 5 minutes. Glassdoor (a site where employee can rate employers) would rate the company the worst place to work for until the company started to force their current employees to write positive reviews and bump up their scores.

(25,106 posts)We had lots of downtime while my computer was booting and rebooting. He asked me my hobbies and I told him that I spend a lot of time resisting Trump. He responded, "I can't comment on that". So, instead of Trump I discussed how I was spending time dealing with issue of escalating health care costs in the US and how I was contacting my elected officials. We talked about that for awhile.
