My position in a tweet

I've been a progressive socialist for three generations (my grandparents helped found the CCF in Manitoba, with JS Woodsworth and Tommy Douglas.) This crisis transcends all left/right posturing. If we lose the big fight, there will be no small ones left. Eyes on the prize - and make no mistake the prize is liberal democracy.

For more, check out Seth Abrahamson's megathread on Trump-Russia. Trump has been a Russian agent of influence since 2013:

...because it's not just about trump. It's not even just about the repubs...

I'll tell you right now I will not unite with dems tacking to the right to win elections.

No one reasonable is saying the situation is not dangerous. Just tell us exactly what you plan to do about it.

People are ready for policies that help them with education and healthcare.

5. this war isn't about elections, it's about the destruction of nations.

I'm certainly not suggesting that "dems tack right". That won't win this war. Political maneuvering only matters in an environment of legitimate elections. I'm planning to read and support all reasonable anti-Trump, anti-Russian sources until Mueller wins the battle, because that's the only way such an environment can be restored. I plan to support political parties in Canada that are resolutely anti-Russian.

This war isn't about American politics, any more than the Battle of the Bulge was about Belgium.

7. It saddens me to see the number of people who are blind to the strategy of divisiveness employed by Trump/Putin.

Those who fall for the hyperpartisan bullshit are doing Putin's bidding.

I've been seeing way too much demonizing of party rather than policy. Disconcerting .

8. this "destruction of nations" is about world capitalism/imperialism....

...and has been going on a long time. the u.s. has been directly involved in it at least since the beginning of the 20th century when we joined the list of imperialist nations. the liberal opposition to this has been failing at least since WWI. The u.s.'s role grew exponentially following WWII.

The "good and evil" being spoken of has been with us since the inception of the country, with enshrined discrimination against the poor and women, and actual enslavement of Africans and genocide of Native Americans.

Trump is a merely a symptom of the corporate/imperialist power of the u.s. and the inevitable decline and destruction of any semblance of democracy even at the risk of destroying the planetary environment. All trump represents is the removal of the mask.

Elections? What have the democrats been doing about election theft since 2000? We have lost three presidential races due to electoral theft and there is still no programatic response or call to arms regarding obvious perversion of the electoral process.

We hear repeated accusations of "divisiveness" against anyone standing for principles of democracy. Who exactly am I being encouraged to unite with? I stand with the oppressed, the poor, the working classes, and all reasonable people. I have no allegiance to any party, particularly the two majors, both of whom have been complicit with corporate power for the better part of a century.

...we're not really on the same page. You will note I didn't say anything about who I would vote for in any given election.
