How does a person just lie like that, when it can be easily seen to be a lie? He's never held accountable for lying. If someone does question it, he squeaks out of it by saying somebody told him--"well, that's what I was told."

Another possible explanation: he had a dream that Time called him up and that he refused. Sounds like the kind of dream a narcissist would have. And when he woke up, he thought it really had happened and couldn't wait for his Twitter audience to hear about it.
