The Queen might not attend Prince Harry's wedding to Meghan Markle.
The Queen is head of the Church of England, which teaches that marriage is for life.
As this is Meghan Markle's second wedding, she may feel uncomfortable witnessing a divorcee's marriage.
This stopped her from attending Prince Charles' second marriage in 2005.
At the time, the Queen reportedly said: "I am not able to go ... I do not feel that my position permits it."

(2,700 posts)The Church of England basically became independent (of the pope) due to the desire of Henry VIII to ditch his then-current wife and marry another (and another, and another, and another, and so on).

(6,843 posts)The marriage is for life if recognized by the Church. She was married in Jamaica in a non religious ceremony. The Church likely would not recognize her first marriage anyway.

(106,599 posts)As that points out, Charles and Camilla didn't pass the "did this relationship help cause the divorce?" test, so they had a civil ceremony, to which the Queen didn't go. I think the C of E priests will be OK with Harry and Meghan marrying in a church, and the Queen may take that lead.

(29,512 posts)The act replaced male-preference primogeniture with absolute primogeniture for those born in the line of succession after 28 October 2011, which meant the eldest child regardless of gender would precede his or her siblings. The act also ended the historical disqualification of a person who married a Roman Catholic from the line of succession, and removed the requirement of those outside the first six persons in line to the throne to seek the Sovereign's approval to marry.
Harry is currently fifth in line, and will be sixth after Kate's baby is born.
