(14,680 posts)He is a public figure, so he gets very little legal privacy protection, and it is very difficult for a public figure to sue for slander/libel since the person being sued can claim a right to parody, which is protected free speech.

(14,680 posts)than would Franken have any recourse. I don't see how the billboard owner wouldn't have the right to damages and redress, and criminal charges could be applied.
That being said, the guy who did it would probably feel like it was a win to get that much publicity vs the minor fines and sanctions he would receive. I imagine he could raise any fines he incurred in short order on a conservative website or with a Gofundme request.

(16,241 posts)than a minor inconvenience for him. Letting him get away with defacing another's property will also allow him to continue and move upward. A criminal record will hamper that. My opinion would be completely different if he purchased the billboard himself.
I also wonder if having a go fund me would be considered profiting from his crime.
