So Flynn's kid has not been charged with anything yet? That could be a big deal.

Charges against the kid - to say nothing of more charges against Flynn - are leverage to keep Flynn on the Stool Pigeon Straight And Narrow.

It's a bit early to reach any definite conclusions, but don't rule out the possibility that Daddy sold out Sonny to spare himself as much as he could. People who operate on the "Me first and fuck you" principle can be pretty dogmatic about it.
