It's important to do the math and not freak out over the raw numbers.

Makes me crazy.
The markets go up. The markets go down. Overall, they go up more than they go down, which is why trying to time the market is a fool's game.

(25,902 posts)it would be a good thing if everyone who has money in the market were to lose it all.
Not everyone who owns stocks in some form is part of the 1%. Everyone's 401k is at least partially in stocks or mutual funds. Most pension plans (and they do still exist ot there) are invested.
