Dick Durbin (D-Illinois) and Mark Warner (D-Virginia) vote *against* amendment to Senate tax bill...

...that would require any future cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security as a result of the Senate tax bill be passed with at least 67 votes. In other words, these two senators joined Republicans in making it easier for Congress to cut funding to these programs in the future. Thanks guys, great job...

EDIT: And Tom Carper (D-Delaware) too, making 3 Democratic Senators to vote no...wtf...

EDIT 2: Votes are up on Senate.gov

Earlier today Collins said Turtle assured her the house would wave medicare cuts. With the defeat of this amendment one Collins excuses for voting for this tax bill is out the window.

There has to be more to it than that. Dick Durbin has been solidly opposed to this all along. Also, I thought Susan Collins had a commitment that there wouldn't be those cuts.

if you want to call it that has to go back to the House for wording to be identical. The filthy GOP didn't even let the Dems read it....WTF. These bastards are so desperate they will screw the nation and its people. What is with those Senators who are voting for this POS.

Sickening........................

this amendment wouldn't be accepted by the house or they believe that a future republican senate wouldn't honor it anyway. If that's the case just go ahead and defeat it now to eliminate one of Collins excuses for voting for this horrible tax bill.

against the amendment voted for the amendment it would've still failed 51 to 49 and even if it did pass republicans could've just came back and repealed the amendment by a 51 to 49 vote. Democrats who voted nay were probably aware of that so they voted to sink it to take Collins excuse away for voting for the tax bill in hopes of changing her mind into not voting for the bill and if she still votes for it Democrats got plenty of ammunition next time she is up for re-election.

All a future Senate has to do is repeal the requirement with a majority. It is only intended to give Republicans cover.
