Does your Company hold an annual Holiday party?

Mine holds a nice one each year. We are a small engineering company. We invite spouses, significant others, some favorite consultants, and retired partners.

work from home. Have never even met my boss of 7 years!

We did used to have an annual get together when my boss 2 levels up would visit with local people. The restaurant we went to was BYOB and pizza. Very cheap, but at least they paid for the beer and wine!

Our company is not doing well (yet again!) and I think people would likely be mad if they spent money on a holiday party.

corporate would hold these big bashes...fancy meal in a big hotel, free booze, gifts etc. we were technically invited but i do not think anyone from the real out lying offices ever attended.

they had the gall to post pictures and stories about the event.
out in branch land, nothing nada.....great way to build that team spirit.

damn i am still bitter

his cabin in the woods for the day. We do a few chores in the morning, have a big dinner including steaks on the grill and then fool around playing horseshoes, fishing or just swapping lies on the front porch, if that's what pleases you. We close the shop for the day, but get paid for 8 hours.

Then our division has a larger party at a venue downtown sometime in January, but those of us in the outlying offices find getting there and parking etc to be a hassle and we don't usually go to that one.

Our department is split over multiple buildings. Our building (about 50 people) holds a potluck-type party the day before the holiday break starts. We start it around noon and go until around 2:30. Traditionally, we've always been released a bit early that day. We'll see if the tradition continues

We also have a more formal party catered at some local location where the employees, recent retirees, significant others, customers, other department heads are invited.

For about fifteen years, I worked out of a major music company's offices in New York. Their headquarters was in Los Angeles and I would frequently work there when I was in California. One of the office assistants was assigned to me and she was great to work with. She was smart, funny and took care of things promptly. She was a very attractive young woman who taught Yoga on the weekends on the beach in Santa Monica. We had a good professional friendship.

The company's CEO was a notorious womanizer even though he was married with children. At the company's holiday party, where the booze was flowing, he started schmoozing this young lady. She went along with his advances right up till he crossed a line. She sued for sexual harassment and was awarded $3 million!

Then the corporate lawyers showed up at all of the company's offices. Every officer from Assistant VP on up was required to take anti-harassment/sexual sensitivity training because of the CEO's behavior. His big slap on the wrist was that he had to forfeit his $1 million annual bonus that year.

Since I was a consultant and not an employee I wasn't involved but it has always struck me that the CEO pretty much got away with his criminal behavior. This tale has been informative on more than one occasion since then.

Bunch of guys couldn't figure out the difference between "have a drink" and "get completely shitfaced", so the bigwigs put an end to it.

EDIT: We do have xmas dinners by department, that the company pays for. (Most of our departments consist of four people.)

But I am just not the party type, especially with people who are my co-workers. I like them all, we have a good group, but it’s just not my thing.

Used to have one at every site. From what i hear, last year was the last year unless it's some special year like the 80th year of the company or something.

Doesn't matter to me. I quit going 15 to 20 years ago.

There's a set amount per employee, like $25 or something, and you go to a fancy restaurant. The manager covers any cost difference. No alcohol. Some teams do a lunch at like 3 so they can then go to happy hour.

I work for a large not-for-profit. There isn't one "company party" but departments all have their own on company time at company facilities around the state. We do a pot-luck lunch with a white elephant gift exchange for IT department here but I don't even know what other regions do.
