On being constituent and calling for Al Franken to resign! If Former Dean of the U.S. Congress and Representative John Conyers was FORCED to retire, then the same treatment should apply equally to Al Franken. Period!
Also, thank you's are forwarded to Senator Gillibrand (who was first to be consistent), Senator Harris (who quickly followed).
This issue cannot be about RACE.
If the standard is a standard -- then it should be a standard for ALL - Al Franken, John Conyers (now retired), anyone.
It cannot be about "save" Al Franken but "dump" John Conyers. Unlike Nancy Pelosi position of being all over the darn place -- the many of these Women Senators issued a JOINT statement which was strong and did not leave questions of why now.
Maybe Pelosi can learn a thing or two about consistent leadership from Senator Gillibrand, Senator Harris and Senator Stabneow.

(3,363 posts)You can now successfully fabricate allegations against Democratic Congressman, and sit back while the Democratic party destroys them and opens a seat for you.

You're recommending that one of our BEST FIGHTER on Russia and against the GOP in general get canned for unproven allegations!
This is NOT FEMINISM. This is NOT FAIRNESS.
This is rolling over to get stomped on some more.
And how about the election that was STOLEN by the GOP?
Okay so let's play "nice" and see where that gets us.

(31,780 posts)Al Franken hasn't even gotten an ethics hearing.
Why don't his accusers AT least take him to Civil Court? Seriously.
This is a witch hunt.

(36,823 posts)but, yes, I do believe it is a witch hunt.
I am so saddened by this because a few calling for his ouster are/were on my 2020 radar. Gah!
As I said in another thread, I feel numb.

Any Senator calling for this will be treated the same way I treated HRC and Sanders in the primary. I'm going to be vicious to them. None of them is strong enough to be President.

(7,006 posts)Then John Conyers was (as in being #ForcedToRetire)
We had a thread blocked for calling this issue out yesterday and now today -- a number of Democratic Senators are being consistent (unlike Nancy Pelosi was on this very same matter - different now former Congressional Leader) with rightfully asking for Al Franken to do the same as John Conyers was forced to do.
Unless the issue is RACE, then what is it (because frankly, it's BS to call it ANYTHING ELSE)!

(52,152 posts)Conyers settled two suits, with tax payer money it should be stated, over his conduct. Both of his accusers are known, not anonymous. Both of his accusers accuse him of work related conduct. Conversely, Franken hasn't had any kind of hearing at all. Many of his accusers are anonymous and only one of the accusations come from a work environment.

(7,006 posts)Al Franken was accused of multiple issues of harassment before he was Senator but while serving the USO Tour. Another two incidents were when he was taking a picture.
If a standard is The Standard it has to be consistent. Time is not a factor. When is not the factor (as in before or after the individual was elected), if the accuser was paid out of taxpayers funds or not is not a factor (as many want the 45th to resign and he has not had a penny come from taxpayer funds on the cases he settled -- yet he was elected anyway).
The standard is -- if one is accused and the allegations hold any type of merit -- they should resign or retire from Elected Office in the U.S. Congress and Senate and the Presidency of the United States of America.
Otherwise, the issue is about RACE of the individual accused. POINT, BLANK, PERIOD!

(52,152 posts)not an employee and he surely didn't use tax payer money to pay any settlements of any kind.
So we don't count Sexual Harassment by volunteers now? If so, please tell that to any Non-Profit agency across America and see what they would say about that.

(7,006 posts)The one accuser of John Conyers, named Marlon Brown, was the ONLY one settled with a severance package of $27,000. There was NOT TWO SETTLEMENTS.
