Just. Too. Damn. Disgusted. To. Bother. Arguing.

Two identified women accuse a liberal senator (who just happens to be a kicker of Republican asses) of groping them and their accounts are found to have some "credibility problems". Then, five more anonymous women supposedly accuse the senator of improprieties ranging from groping to unwelcome kisses. He asks to be investigated by the Senate, but, NO-O-O! That's not good enough for our "we go high" party! In order to "regain the moral high ground", 24 Senators, led by Democratic Senator Gillibrand and armed only with "allegations", today DEMAND Al Franken's resignation. BEFORE any investigation. While Trump continues to squat in the White House. While Moore is supported by the GOP.

Hannity, Bannon, Moore and Trump et Al are laughing their asses off. This may do it. This may be Trump's ticket to not only survival, but a second term with a GOP Congress. I'll be "going dark" for a while as I realize this post is not welcome here.

In the current environment if you can’t disprove an allegation (and maybe even if you can) you are guilty by reason of accusation.

If your primary motivation is the good of the party and you see yourself as hurting the party regardless of outcome removing yourself from the board is the logical play to make.

Sacrificing your queen to relieve a pin and open a line of attack is perfectly rational.

And let's just ignore the implication that 32 Democratic senators are "spineless morons" while we can't find an unkind word to use for Franken.

by spineless morons who call a squeeze to the waist in public

What I call it is the eighth known accuser (including multiple women who told others at the time who have also backed up the story). and the photo that emerged after she, Roger Stone and Hannity sprung the hit job on Franken with a USO tour, gag photo as evidence of him groping her (on closer review his hands were just hovering over her, after all it was just a posed, gag shot). I'm talking about the picture of her on stage actually groping a guitarist's ass during the same USO tour.

And here's something else about that fishy first attack on Franken: Tom Arnold?Verified account @TomArnold

To put a button on this the only truth about my old pal Leeann Tweeden’s Al Franken story was the picture. The rest was created by KABC colleague & fellow Trump supporter John Phillips & his bud Roger Stone who coached Leeann for weeks to take Al down. Mission accomplished.
7:29 PM - 6 Dec 2017

And IMO it's naivete to think that they had nothing to do with the rest of the accusers, most anonymous, coming forward, including the last ridiculous accusation of a woman saying Franken "groped" her waist when she asked him to pose with her for a photo.

It's about defining the severity of guilt. If Franken is guilty of the actions his accusers allege, his behavior still does not fit a reasonable standard for charges of "assault", "harassment" or "abuse". Such non-criminal behaviors can be called out and the feelings of those who have been offended can be recognized and validated.

What other recompense is required? Are any of the Senator's accusers in need of therapy to deal with some form of trauma as a result of their interactions with him? Have their careers been negatively impacted?

Senator Franken has pledged to do better, to be more cognizant of his physical interactions with women in the public sphere, which-- for a politician-- is essentially his professional sphere. That should be enough to allow him to go about his job of serving his voters. Unfortunately, it is not enough for those seeking their pound of flesh.

for obvious repug hit jobs.

We should be discounting Tweeden, the first accuser's account, where she submitted a gag photo that alleged Senator Franken groped her but upon closer review showed he wasn't actually touching her at all?

But a photo did emerge as the story developed of her actually groping a guitar player's ass on the same USO tour? Is everyone forgetting that, that she actually did grope someone but wasn't pilloried like Franken was.

Not to mention the fact that she, Roger Stone and Hannity concocted the whole hit job, with Stone predicting what was coming hours before the story broke.

Come on folks, a little analytical thinking is required if we're not to make all of our male office holders and candidates vulnerable to what seems like a repug test run for their latest dirty tricks tactic.

The first incident that started the drip, drip, drip of the others sounds very suspicious, folks.

Let's be smarter than to throw our accused Democrats under the bus without the investigaton Franken himself called for and from which Tweeden immediately back off of by saying it wasn't necessary and she didn't want him to resign.

What was she scared of us finding out?

I mean, yeah, nobody's filed charges against Moore either but we have other stories like him being banned from the mall and being watched by police when at high school games that seem to indicate that the allegations against him are more credible (and serious) than those against Franken.

If his own party refuses to afford him due process, then he may elect to pursue another career. He fought hard for us, but his name is getting dragged through the mud. I can't believe how few people refuse to even consider the possibility that this was a hit job.

Bannon described it today, when he projected onto the democrats that we were bringing false charges agains Roy Moore, and weaponizing sexual assault charges, he put it out there for all to see what the Republicans are doing.

Why are we always so weak?

At the very least, make Franken's resignation contingent upon Trump's resignation.

The right wing are abusive bullies and they always get to set the narrative because of money, donors and corporate power. I am sick about this. I hope he does not give in! His actions were silly antics not intended for sexual gratification, way different than the likes of Moore Et al.

Let the ethics committee, which Franken openly suggested, do their job, giving him due process along the way.

On a day when Paul Ryan is openly gleeful about destroying Medicare and stealing our money, the first spawn of the Cretin is testifying behind closed doors, and a major statement about “capital”izing Jerusalem is being ignored so that all anyone is talking about is the Democratic Party shooting themselves in the face with a gun loaded by Republicans, I question how we will EVER as a political party regain any hope of helping our country avoid mass destruction.

I absolutely agree with you. And, these same 'courageous' Senators and House members aren't demanding Trump resign, are they? Or that the RNC get rid of Roy Moore? I've got some real, hard issues with this bullshit. I hear Pelosi and Steny on the impeachment vote, because we need to be focusing on making sure the tax scam doesn't get signed, but WHY IN HELL are these same people asking Franken to resign? I guess this whole day rates a big, huge, "WHAT THE FUCK?"

I may get piled on for this, but I'm going to say it anyway.

As an ex-Republican, and now Democrat, I am always still amazed that our Dems in power still haven't gotten it through their heads that anything, anything, any negative words or actions against the party will be seized on, immediately, and used by the Republicans. Like saying impeachment is off the table. Fuck that. Not only should impeachment be on the table, it should be the appetizer, main course and dessert. Franken was set up.

When your enemy shows you that he is an expert at knot-tying, you don't hand him rope. The party in power proves hourly that they will stand by any act or action that benefits them, including treason.

There's a lot of truth to don't be your own worst enemy.

I know if you resign you'll have no worries about income, healtcare or lifeunder Trump.

But for those of us not as fortunate, losing you WILL be a death sentence for some. At least with you in office it will be a strong voice againt the tyranny of this current administration.

With you gone, we older Americans stand to lose (without a decent advocate) welfare, Medicare, Medicaid, Pensions, Social Security and maybe even our lives.

If you go, the odds are very good the Republicans will totally destroy anything we Americans have worked for, fought for or wished for. If you stay, while you can't guarantee that won't happen, we need to trust you to do your best, as you have done these last years to help out those of us who can't afford a life of even modest luxury.

I can probably cite 7 or 8 (questionable) reasons you could go. And I can't think of why, after being slurred by anonymous people AND your own party, you'd want to stay...but stay anyway...at least for us.

It can only be internal politics driving this.

They think we can beat Moore by destroying one of our best? Herd mentality, they're not thinking straight.

Let the investigation proceed and find out the facts. I am so sick of the spineless Dems! Franken is threat to the Repugnants and they are laughing their asses off at he Dems reaction to allegations. Their are different levels of harassment starting with slaps on the asses or friendly banter to rape, loss of job due to not wanting to do sexual favors and child molestation. Franked is on the low end of this if the accusers are telling the truth. Republicans support a child molester and a know sexual predator in chief. We're screwed!!!

I have voted in every election since I turned 18. I'm now nearly 71. I've donated money to Democratic candidates starting at a point in my life when I had a few extra dollars. Wrote the last check (actually PayPal) just last week.

But this capitulation to help destroy a strong voice is the final straw.

I know my small donations and single vote will not make or break anyone.

But I'm tired of being insulted by a gutless party.

If I were younger, I’d be looking to move to Vancouver, BC or Nelson, NZ. But I’m 68 and don’t make the cut (on several counts) for citizenship elsewhere.

I’ve been a registered, voting and donating Democrat since 1971. I’m about done, I have no fight left in me. Democrats have been self-immolating for decades. 32 states now have top-to-bottom GOP rule. There are the Kochs, Sheldon Adelson, the Mercers, Citizens United. SCOTUS is right-wing for the next 20-odd years. There are also too many additional lower-level, lifetime judgeships being confirmed that they will be interpreting the law for decades. The right wing has its own 25/7 news network, and countless radio personalities. They have plotted and planned for decades, content to play the “long game,” and now, with control over all three branches of government, they are running the table.

And Democrats? They’ll always have ideological purity. But that’s all.
