I believe that the policy was set to go into effect in January under the Obama Administration's policy but then Trump tried to reverse Obama's policy and ban Transgender people from the military entirely, leading to his policy being sued in Court and blocked by 1-2 Judges (so far). At any rate, it's good news for the Transgender community, even among those of us with no interest in serving!
