I'm not being flippant; if Jones wins, he'll have to immediately run for re-election, likely against a far stronger candidate in one of the reddest States in the country. He probably won't be calling for Trump to resign; he won't be advocating for single-payer health care; he may well support some Trump environmental policies. Will that be acceptable?

(6,034 posts)I can't stand the need for purity. If we are going to have a true 50 state strategy we have to accept that not every Senate nominee can be a Bernie Sanders, Liz Warren, or a Kamala Harris.
A 70% friend is not a 30% enemy.
If Jones wins tonight I imagine he will be that 70% friend, which is pretty f***ing good in Alabama.

If he wins, he's gotta do what he's gotta do and we should just shut up about it.

(2,785 posts)for us until 2018 and 2020 until we can gain seats in the house and Senate, it is highly unlikely he gets re-elected in Alabama. So yes I'll support him, because at least for two years he can vote against the republican agenda.

(31,261 posts)I contributed to his campaign and fully expect him to be a southern bluedog Democrat, I am ok with that, even as I would like someone more liberal.

(14,489 posts)to support the policies his constituents want him to. I've always tried to factor that in when I disagree with any politician. We have far too many pols that religiously follow party lines rather than express what all his voters prefer.
I'll continue to support Doug Jones, so long as nothing horribly bad comes out on him.

(11,175 posts)I don't think that's very likely, but it's kind of early to be calling for a loyalty oath about an election that's almost three years away.
