Want to win in Red States? Here's the plan.
To many, abortion is 90% of their voting decision.
So to win their votes by actually serving Americans offer:
Free family planning nationwide.
Free birth control nationwide.
Free childcare services nationwide.
Affordable health care for single moms, poor families.
Effective Sex Education FOR ALL.
Jobs programs for single mothers, or poor families.
Affordable education for single mothers, or poor families.
Additional opportunities and help for single mothers or poor families.
Many women / families would love to have children, but it would make it almost impossible for some to be successful in other areas.
Work on changing that.
Win every vote in Alabama Doug.
Make it an advantage to have a child and be able to be a good mom / family with opportunities.

(540 posts)There won't be a single Republican voter left.
Pound the corporate prostitutes daily.
Our whole party is leaving 50 million available votes on the table.

(540 posts)Obviously.
Funny no one really ever mentions this....

(33,279 posts)But I think they see those as aiding and abetting immoral choices as well. I am related to several of these voters.
Ideally, pro-life voters want:
Roe v Wade overturned
All abortions made illegal
Plan B made illegal
Planned Parenthood put out of business
Sex Education focused on Abstinence
No government subsidies for birth control
These are not thinkers that can tolerate grey areas. They are binary: On or Off, Black or White.
Even if Dems caved to their demands, they'd still remember that we once murdered millions of unborn Americans.
This is the problem. Like you said, you'd think this would persuade them but it won't. This is a binary issue for them. Either it exists or it doesn't exist. There's no gray area.
SeaDoo77
(540 posts)But we should try 100%.
It's good politics and good for america.

(16,104 posts)it's not as "binary" as people insist!
Doug Jones was advertised as pro-abortion right up to birth, and he won in Alabama.
You have got the right idea!

(33,279 posts)and should be pursued 100%.
I just don't have hope that my cousins can be persuaded, nor the children they are indoctrinating.

(50,549 posts)They do not want abortion reduced. They want it totally banned, and bad things to happen to anyone who seeks abortion care. All of them want the doctor punished. The benevolent ones would like doctors imprisoned. Others want doctors executed. Many want the woman punished the same way. And there are some who want the Constitution amended to get rid of the prohibition on ex post facto laws so they can go after anyone who ever had or performed an abortion.
These people do not know what it means to be an American.
SeaDoo77
(540 posts)Then it's a "secret".

(50,549 posts)Google the only moral abortion is my abortion. It is the story of an abortion doctor who received quite a bit of business from the protesters of his clinic. They knew he was a good provider so theyd get their abortions and their daughters abortions from him, then three days later they were back at it.
If abortion was banned, the rich would still have menstrual extraction and international air travel to countries with legal abortion; the working class would be forced to carry to term.

(12,995 posts)So instead of being ambiguous and wishy-washy and pretending to be "anti-abortion but pro-choice", Doug should be continue to be pro-choice and work on making life better for all the people of Alabama, not on catering to a constituency that will never vote for him.

(10,828 posts)as someone mentioned upthread, we're talking about people who are binary thinkers. For these folks abortion is evil, always murder. But so is contraception. And though in communities and states where abstinence is the only solution and unwanted pregnancies have soared, the mindset insists on repeating the same ineffective policy. Definition of insanity is probably lost on this demographic.
That being said, the list itself would be a benefit for all American families. Yet sadly, even that is suspect in some corners because any help is basically the government getting in the way and/or assisting the undeserving (people unlike themselves).
You know the old saying: you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.
Still, I think your list is a good one. Sounds very 'Democratesque' in nature, something we've supported all along. Now all we need is the majority.

We can take the house and Senate.

(5,210 posts)Making abortions fewer by doing any ONE of these things, let alone all of them, is absolutely NOT what they're interested in. AT ALL.
Here's the best example I can give you about what is behind their thinking, as uttered by Rush Limbaugh, although he's by no means the only one who's expressed similar sentiments.
Remember Sandra Fluke? She got famous because Limbaugh lambasted her for her testimony in favor of having birth control covered by healthcare. He accused her of wanting "Sex without consequences."
Let that sink in. To the religious conservative, if WOMEN have sex (outside marriage, and maybe inside it too), they are required to make themselves vulnerable to pregnancy. They're simply not entitled to risk-free sex. Pregnancy is their punishment for being sexual. Perhaps for being temptresses (just by virtue of their mere existence).
Anti-abortion arguments are NOT based on concern for "the baby," but rather it's 100% about controlling (and punishing) women, especially for their sexuality. Most of them don't realize it consciously, but now and then a thought like Limbaugh's tumbles out and you can see the true basis of their anti-woman activities.
Red States would abhor and vehemently fight your perfectly sensible, humane, progressive agenda. Believe me, all the people who've been pro-Choice for lo these 40+ years have been down this futile path well ahead of you.
