Im increasingly worried Republicans will shut down the House Intelligence Committee investigation at the end of the month. Heres why:
Since March, our investigation has made important progress. Weve interviewed numerous key witnesses behind closed doors, held public hearings, reviewed thousands of documents, identified new leads all to understand and expose Russia's meddling and protect our democracy.
Yet, Republicans have scheduled no witnesses after next Friday and none in 2017. We have dozens of outstanding witnesses on key aspects of our investigation that they refuse to contact and many document requests they continue to sit on.
It appears Republicans want to conduct just enough interviews to give the impression of a serious investigation.
Next week, they scheduled critical witness interviews out of state, when we are voting on the tax bill and vital government funding bills and no Members will be able to ask questions, in an effort to squeeze them in before end of year. These witnesses are willing to come to DC.
Despite our repeated urging, Majority has declined to issue subpoenas in numerous avenues of the investigation, where there's simply no other way to get the information. Some refusals weve made public, like witnesses hiding behind nonexistent privileges, many others we havent.
The responsibility to conduct a thorough investigation, or to prevent one, ultimately falls on @SpeakerRyan. Im concerned he's heeding the calls of Bannon and @POTUS to DO SOMETHING by closing down the Russia investigation & opening up another investigation of Hilary Clinton.
Beyond our investigation, heres what has me really concerned: The attacks on Mueller, DOJ and FBI this week make it clear they plan to go after Muellers investigation. Aggressively and soon.
By shutting down the congressional investigations when they continue to discover new and important evidence, the White House can exert tremendous pressure to end or curtail Muellers investigation or cast doubt on it. We cannot let that happen.

(23,296 posts)Hence the periodic phone calls (yesterday) to blow smoke up Dotard's ample ass. Putin is checking in to keep his puppet on task. It feels like we're marking time until the coup is complete - it isn't yet but it is coming.

(31,106 posts)That much is obvious.
What I dont know is what will Putin allow him to do and not do, what is in his best interests?
MontanaMama
(23,296 posts)in that we should be identifying what outcomes would benefit Russia...and watch Dotard and company support that effort. Lindsay Graham has such a boner for war with NK that he can't keep his mouth shut about if of late. It seems inevitable, I fear.

(31,106 posts)Neither putin, trump or dipshit in NK care whether or not 50 million North and South Koreans die, they dont care AT ALL.
So what will putin allow and what wont he?
He doesnt want nukes I am pretty sure, trump does but he isnt in charge, putin is.
So who knows.

Of course there will be collateral damage, but the leaders will somehow miraculously survive in bunkers with on-site MacDonalds, weight rooms with lots selfie cameras, and plenty of cognac. Collateral damage (this means us/you) has never been a concern of despots.

(3,075 posts)... that NK has been, "buying", surplus missile parts from the Russians. I am surprised that NK suddenly having missiles that can fly, let alone lift off the launch pad, hasn't brought this up:
"After intensive study, Elleman, a former consultant at the Pentagon, and other specialists would report that they had detected multiple design features in the new North Korean missile engine that echo those of a 1960s-era Soviet workhorse called the RD-250."

(9,426 posts)should print their own findings so far. Include the refusals the gop has put up. Let the people decide who is right and who is wrong. If this were a democratic president, they would have been screaming fights by the gop by now. The dems. are too polite. Take the damn gloves off. Just how much Russian money did the gop take, anyway? They are afraid they will be caught up in this Russian mess.

(16,254 posts)I'm talking about people like us. Really hit with phone calls, emails, tweets, etc, not to mention hitting the streets. I'm sick of the bullying, blocking, lying, cheating and shutting out of the Democrats in Congress then blaming them for not participating in the process.
I'm just basically sick of Republicans!
Adam Schiff has been so good about keeping us informed through various venues, which I appreciate. I can believe what he has to say, which is refreshing. He has had to contend with that crack in the wheel of justice (Nunes) for far too long. I think Nunes is doing Trump's bidding and providing inside information to him, but we'll never prove it. They are working their way up to Mueller and I personally feel obligated to protect Mueller in any way I can with whatever bit of power I can muster. I dread the holidays because I think they are going to hit us with all kinds of tricks and leave town.
Damn, I'm even mad enough I'd call Republicans' offices. That's goin' some for me.

..the shut down? How? The Repugs don't care about appearances.
They've so gerrymandered voting districts that all that matters to Repugs in Congress is the Bannon core base. And their donors. Which seem to be interested in the same thing. The Repugs are free to do whatever they want.
I fear the coup has already happened.

you can have them send emails to your reps in Congress - Senate, House or both - and your state governor. Just type in the message that the Mueller investigation must be fully funded and allowed to continue without interference from Congress, the Justice Department or the White House.

(562 posts)Trump, the GOP, and the right wing media are now aggressively attacking the FBI and Mueller.
Any day now, Trump can attempt to fire Mueller by firing Rosenstein and on down.
Meanwhile, we sit passively in fear-the same fear we've had for a year of Trump, of Russia, of the end of democracy, as the GOP enables and coddles Trump - Sessions/Trump doing nothing to prevent future Russian interference.
What's Schiff saying between the lines. The GOP and TRUMP are actively trying to stop the investigation. So the alarm is sounded. AND OBAMA sounded the alarm
Too. The question is ...WHAT NOW?
If the shoe were on the other foot, GOP leaders and mass media would threaten holy war. They would be all over media issuing warnings. There would be more than an implied threat of violence.
BUT the shoe is always on the dem foot. AND WE COWER BY COMPARISON. Schiff twisting in the wind - sounding the alarm by himself FRIGHTENS ME.
I'D RATHER HAVE A COORDINATED ATTACK BY THE LEADERSHIP because that's where we're at.
The GOP is a dying party with a criminal president, and their fear and desperation are resulting in egregious, flagrant acts intent to control the govt.
Take a step back. They're/TRUMP's actions this year are FAR FAR BEYOND all boundaries of ethics. Dems are now the enemy of the state. Excuse me but fuck that. I thought I had freedoms to hold political beliefs without the President and GOP labeling me as an enemy. Bashing my party daily and me as a member. We snicker and tolerate it, BUT ITS AN ASSAULT on democracy and democrats and ME. Even the tax bill punishes blue states. Are you fucking kidding me?
I'm begging dem leadership, a united Dem front, not just Adam Schiff, to FORCEFULLY STATE THAT THIS COERCED INTIMIDATION OF AN INDEPENDENT PROSECUTOR AND ATTEMPT TO OBSTRUCT LAWFUL PROCESS, WITH DIRE NATIONAL SECURITY IMPLICATIONS, AND DEMOCRACY AT STAKE CANNOT STAND.
I know MANY MANY DEMS with my same grave concerns and I'm FUCKING TIRED OF THIS TRUMPIAN/GOP THREAT BEING A CAUSE OF ANXIETY and FEAR.
Again taking a step back - WHY THE FUCK DO I/WE NEED TO LIVE IN FEAR OF THIS PIG TRUMP AND CONSPIRING GOP FOR ONE MORE SECOND? DO THEY CONTROL THE ARMY YET?

(43,062 posts)the fact they have no fear about what they're doing says they will shut it all down and
don't expect elections in 2018 either. They are telegraphing their intentions in my view.
The Intelligence Community is where this will all be decided. They stand for rule of law rather than opinion.
I don't know enough about it, but I can't see how the Republican Party could hope to shut down everything.
