They both, at different times, headed the transition team. How is it possible for either of them to have been out of the loop? I don't see how either of them avoided not getting caught up in the hubris and manage to not get sloppy. I never believed for a moment that Pence, at the very least, didn't know what was going on. The emails are going to ensnare them.
Not only that, several republican congressmen who were on the transition team must know they are in serious trouble. This now puts the apoplectic behavior we are witnessing on television into context.
The hysteria that must be going on at this moment must be epic. These people are going to shift into survival mode and start to turn on each other.
And don't forget Campaign Chairwoman Kellyanne Conway. Mueller must have a file on her three feet thick.
Trump can't make this go away. Dan Rather is right, Trump is a cornered animal.
It is only a matter of time before some of these emails are made public. They are going to shake this country to the core.

(129,376 posts)But note that Christie was booted just after the election (about 3 days later) so although I may be wrong, that transition email system (PTT), and its accounts probably wasn't up and running until after Christie was gone. Christie may have been responsible for pre-transition stuff but not the official transition, which was all Pence.
Plus it is possible that the system wasn't even "officially" in place until after the electoral college vote, which happened on December 19th, so that would definitely leave Christie out of it.
Obama announced the Russian sanctions on December 29th, so it would be interesting what might have transpired on that system leading up to that, between December 20th and the January 20th inauguration, given the sanctions and recently revealed assertions from other sources about advisors telling Putin "not to retaliate" (hinting it would be taken care of).

(10,952 posts)is really glad about now that he was fired. He has enough problems of his own and he just might have avoided the Trump bullet.
He will be laughing when Kushner gets indicted.

(129,376 posts)and Christie has been bopping around like a big load was lifted. He pretty much beat the Bridgegate debacle and the new Dem Governor-elect just nominated one of Chritie's prosecutor appointees to be NJ AG (although the guy would be the first Sikh state AG in U.S. history).

(37,452 posts)They must be good to have some many Republicans & Fox News squealing like a hog house. Unlike Hillary's these were obtained legally by the court process.

(9,426 posts)in this mess. I want to see both of them exposed. Ryan is talking about retiring? Either he got a LOT of $$$ or he is afraid to run and get flattened. Slimy politicians all run as (R) since the (D)'s want QUALITY people. Too late to fire Mueller, he has all the dirt. Enough to sink the whole gang of deadwood.

(32,722 posts)McConnell especially was all over Trump even before he got the nomination. He was undoubtedly getting positive vibes from Putin over this, I can't imagine this happening any other way. McConnell was also getting insider dope from his campaign donors for sure.
Ryan is a little more complicated though. Initially Ryan hated Trump and even as late as June or early July 2016 - just before the Republican convention - he didn't want to endorse Trump. This was after Trump had won all of those primaries and was the clear choice as the Republican candidate, it took Ryan a long while thinking about it. Something happened (I don't know what) to get Ryan on board with the Trump candidacy. Either it was great salesmanship by McConnell, or it was Ryan's big-money donors who told him this is the way it's going to be.
And yes these men are both complicit because they clearly knew all about the Russian involvement with the campaign.

(57,162 posts)they are stupid (they believe no-one else can see or hear them). The biggest thing about this last election was that they treated iy like a game, the was winner takes all. They had a Vince Lombardi attitude - winning is everything.

These folks are either very naive or believe they are above the law. Or, I guess, there is stupid too.
