(118,749 posts)They convinced him he didn't understand economics. That he could not be a maverick for the people on economics. He got snowed. I see that as weakness. He does not deserve to die.

that should be his karma
I don't care whether he gets better or not...we all are going to die, so what's the diff when?

(28,795 posts)nowhere near death at this point. even if he was, show me, please, the grave dancing, of which you accuse me. Jesus.
he's such a fine man, though, well worth the sympathy:
Off-duty, usually on routine cross-country flights to Yuma and El Centro, John [McCain] started carousing and running around with women.
Asked about them, he admitted to having a series of dalliances during this period.
it's even worse than that:

(4,154 posts)Death isn't always a bad thing. . . Seriously. And quite honestly, I would much prefer to see Senator McCain dead than I would a bunch of innocent people. And as you said, he's going to die anyway. . . With a glioblastoma, he has no chance of recovery and can only hope for a peaceful death.
It's a shame he hasn't extended the same degree of kindness and altruism towards others that they have given him.

(29,696 posts)holidays will always be family, friends and sorrow for so many families. My brother died on Dec. 23rd in 1980......understand the the pain the McCain family is dealing with. My hope is they will be happy with what time Senator McCain has left.
IluvPitties
(3,181 posts)Just think about how different and more decent McCain would have been as president, in comparison to Trump. McCain is a good man who loves this country... a man who wanted to win so bad in 08 that allowed sone real evil people in the GOP to nominate a trial balloon called Sarah Palin as VP. He accepted Palin because he wanted to take a bit of the novelty of the Dems nominating a black man for president away. I don't think he knew how stupid Palin was, or how evil the forces behind her were. Palin served as a precursor to Trump- but most of us did not know it back then, including McCain.
Gabi Hayes
(28,795 posts)you could have stopped right there
McCain has always always always been a self serving creep, from his youngest days, through the navy, through his first wife (know anything about that?), through the Keating 5.....I could go on
like all republicans in power these days, he is shameless, heartless, and greedy.
a liar without compunction. you mentioned the 08 election. combine that with his perjurious testimony during the Keating 5 fiasco (along with his behind the scenes, mendacious tossing the other 4 under the bus to the media), there's little room to find him admirable on any account. if you choose to honor his service, well, there's that little thing about murdering innocent civilians in a war of aggression, a quagmire of our own making, and one in which he chose to be a good German, I mean serviceman
other than that, a great guy

(20,718 posts)reel soon. Dunno.
But he served honorably, and you can't discount that. He also stood up for Obama, and stopped the desicration of ACA.
He's certainly not all bad. GOP has far worse, for sure. But he wasn't president material, either.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)intensely corrupt bill to be what would be a truly infamous legacy.
Description of prisoner of war would open the longest-lived paragraph on him, and the last one his role as a leading signator of whatever this massive tax heist, bankrupting of our treasury, and dismantling of programs most Americans depend on and strongly support will be known as if it passes. For sure students will be studying the massive corruption and takeover of the Republican Party in this era as long as our nation exists.

(47,270 posts)Hortensis
(58,785 posts)His mom's still alive at 105, btw, going on 106. She campaigned for him in 2008, but that was 9 years ago now.

Irish_Dem
(47,270 posts)His presence in congress would not change the outcome of upcoming votes anyway.
And it is time for the McCain family to be together.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)fight against what he's been part of. If he missed Christmas, oh well. As it is, I believe he's an unprincipled, hypocritical coward who's running away from the final, crowning piece of villainy that for sure would be his historic epitaph.
Irish_Dem
(47,270 posts)But the other thing is that we do not know how sick he is right now,
and how much time he has left. Could be days, not weeks.
Or he may be bed ridden and on high dose pain killers.
We just don't know.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)duty is to serve the people. He can't call Manpower to send a temp to cover. If he didn't want to spend some of what could be his last winter in DC during this pivotal time, he should have resigned. We owe him nothing but courtesy (usually), and as a senator owes us everything. It comes with the position he assumed.
Off to bed now. (Never used this one before.)

(47,270 posts)I am cynical, tough, demanding and exacting.
But I believe even evil people deserve to say goodbye to their kin and be buried by them.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)agree, though I'll still think he should have stayed in DC in case he lived long enough to be wheeled in for the vote. Otoh, if the vote fails, he can be hailed as helping defeat it by default.
Night again.

Time to gather the Family and say good byes and enjoy Family laughs and hugs.
McConnell has his fifty plus loser Pence. Sad when Party takes priority over Country and one of their Leaders. Really sounds the true character of McConnell,Cornyn and Ryan.
BTW,on a sad note, think of those who will not be able to receive the same or similiar Cancer Treatment this time next year. All for a Wealth Transfer Legislation to keep GOP Campaign Donors Happy.

I could not be a hypocrite and say "he was a good person that cared about us all". Nope, just ain't gonna happen.
As far as his cancer goes, he was a member of a political party that wants nothing more than to deny the rest of us the same healthcare he now enjoys. I hope he does not suffer as he passes into wherever it is he goes.

I prefer that he not be able to vote on this abomination of a tax bill. If that means he has to be ill in order not to vote or worse, so be it. Senator McCain is one person, and he has the potential to harm so many millions.
