SACS places Central Alabama Community College on probation

An accrediting organization placed Central Alabama Community College in Alexander City on probation last week because of some financial issues.

Central Alabama retains its accreditation during the 12-month probation, which was announced by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

Central Alabama President Susan Burrow said the probation is the result of audit findings from previous years that have mostly been resolved. Burrow said it would not affect students or any programs offered by the school.

"This is another step in the process for resolving some of the longstanding financial reporting issues the school has faced in the past," said Burrow, who arrived at the college in 2013.
