Alabama House votes to block abortion clinics near schools

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Abortion clinics would be prohibited near schools under legislation approved by the Alabama House. It would force one of the state's five abortion clinics to move or close.

The House of Representatives on Tuesday voted 79-15 for the proposal to ban clinics within 2,000 feet of a public K-12 school. The state would not license or renew a license for clinics within that distance. The bill now moves to the state Senate, where it faces an uncertain outlook with five meeting days remaining in the legislative session.

Rep. Ed Henry, R-Hartselle, said the clinics are not appropriate near children, nor are clinic protests, which he said can include graphic statements from "both sides" and photos of aborted fetuses,

Opposing lawmakers called the bill an attempt to close an abortion clinic.

2. These legislators are downright crazy.

Abortion does not effect their everyday lives and they cut funds to help Mothers of these unwanted children. We live in backwards world.

3. It's more small government Republicanism.

This is a way to pick off one more women's clinic.

Government regulation should only apply to women, minorities, immigrants and the poor.

They just authorized state banking to start a computerized data collection program to monitor all pay day loans to make sure the people aren't getting too many loans, 'cause the people aren't too smart, and to identify unlicensed lenders (internet - which the state will tell borrowers they are legally not required to pay back one dime of an unlicensed loan) and not do too much on interest rates.

Meanwhile, across the board 5-9% cuts to all our Alabama government services. Raising revenue is too hard, when you campaigned to never raise taxes.

Now, these are Republicans. Just watch them come back for special session, and raise taxes.

More anti-abortion is up their sleeves.
