Just download the latest version. There aren't "patches" like you see for operating systems.

I think I’m just supposed to download updated version but not delete old one? Is this right?

2. I can speak for Apple stuff. I just updated.

On the desktop, download the newest version. (a dmg on mac, double click on the dmg to open it)
Dragging Signal.app to the app folder will replace the old one.

On phones and ipads, go to the app store and search for Signal. It will offer to update the app, if you haven't turned on "automatically update apps". Click on update.

Windows, Linux and Android users can chime in.
