'BP is leaving me like roadkill as it slinks out of town'

As British Petroleum pulls up stakes to leave, one Alaskan has no problem referring to the company as “scum of the earth … at least some at the top.” The man’s name is Chris McIntyre and he says BP is leaving him broke after stealing his idea, an idea that has saved BP billions in damages – and saved the coast of the Gulf of Mexico from environmental extinction.

“BP used my idea, saved the company from ruin and this is what happens? Now the company is slinking out of Alaska and leaving my family and I like roadkill with not so much as a glance behind,” McIntyre said.

It would seem McIntyre has reason to be bitter — millions of dollars of reasons bitter.

Yet, McIntyre does not focus so much on the dollars; he’s more worried about whether his family will “ever be whole again.

2. What an amazing story

Step one is to have it explained as clearly as this reporter did. This is no small feat, considering the complexity of the technology.

Step two is to have that court decision investigated. Corruption, most likely.

Step three is to force remuneration from BP and the oil industry in general.

4. What is the real shame is that the article is in an alternative media publication

and will not receive any media attention by the major wire services. Despite the occasional criticism that I take from a few members, finding stories like this one makes me realize that the time I spend scouring the media is worth it. Kudos to the reporter for an outstanding article. I hope that posting it on DU will help it receive more attention.

My dad was a printer. He worked in newspapers, job shops and owned his own printing business.
He retired as a printing teacher in a vocational school setting.

He always said white space, white space, white space. In the right ratio that is what will get your text read.

8. Nearly every media site asks for the user to disable their ad blockers.

The sites affiliated with the Voice Media Group (Phoenix New Times, Denver Westword, Dallas Oberserver, Miami New Times, etc.) are probably the worst since they require the reader to click off at least three pop-ups and one video before being enabled to view the content. I despise their sites because they use a significant portion of the RAM on my computer which causes my browser to crash. It really makes me wonder why I even have an ad-blocker.

While there are ads on the Anchorage Press, they are nothing in comparison. I do quite a bit of editing to limit threads to the four or five paragraphs I post on DU so I guess that by taking the time in editing the articles it makes the experience a bit more pleasant for everyone else and the reader can choose to click the link for more details. It does feel like sifting through the garbage dumpster though.

It's something I do as a volunteer. I investigate legal cases. I am not an attorney but I do have a lengthy background in the law.

You will almost always find errors in the investigation, which is of both the police (or researchers) and the legal process. It's important this investigation be separate from the lawyers, at least at first. Later you have to join forces with them.

There is hardly ever that I find a case that is error-free. Most of the time the cases are replete with errors.

Then you take the case back up citing the errors. That's sort of a simplified version of it. Get a new appeal, hearing, or whatever the case might be. That is how you would force remuneration. I have seen it work over a long period of time. One big problem in the future is going to be the hack judges that Trump/McConnell got through.

Now that BP is out of the state, that's one consideration.

Another consideration is that the law operates very differently when they know knowledgeable people are watching.

12. Thanks. I used to know a lawyer who worked for an Appeals Judge and said much the same thing.

This is tricky business, this technicality testing, isn't it.

Appeals are where actual persons get honored over artificial entities' interests, though. Because of the way that the law defines citizens v the way it defines persons.
