Personal note: When I first moved to Juneau in 1982, Rie was living on Starr Hill, a short distance from where I spent the first few months living with my sister and my brother-in-law. One day shortly after moving there, I followed a short path and found myself at the door to Rie's house. She welcomed me in. We have been friends ever since.
