Loretta Lynch, in Confirmation Hearing, Defends Legality of Obama Immigration Action

WASHINGTON Loretta E. Lynch, the nominee to become attorney general, on Wednesday defended the legality of President Obamas immigration policy at the start of a confirmation hearing in which the new Republican-controlled Judiciary Committee promised tough questions.
Republicans have been particularly critical of the presidents decision last year to unilaterally ease the threat of deportation for millions of unauthorized immigrants. Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. approved the legal justification for that action.
Some Republicans have said Ms. Lynchs views on the subject will determine their votes, and Senator Charles E. Grassley of Iowa, the new Republican chairman of the committee, led the hearing with a question on the topic.
Ms. Lynch said she had read the Justice Departments legal opinions and added, I dont see any reason to doubt the reasonableness of those views.
