Former Republican nominee Mitt Romney and his wife, Ann are set to have lunch beside Chelsea Clinton and her husband, Marc Mezvinsky, Friday at an event that could be awkward given some unkind words Romney had about Clinton's mother, Hillary, at an event this week.

The lunch was first reported by the New York Times. The Romneys and Clintons will both be at an event to benefit the Ann Romney Center for Neurological Diseases Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. The Romneys launched the center last fall to research and develop treatments and cures for a group of neurological diseases, including multiple sclerosis, the disease which has afflicted Ann Romney since 1998. Mezvinsky is on the center's advisory board.

Now that Romney is considering a third presidential bid, however, he has started looking for ways to attack former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who looks likely to be the Democratic nominee in 2016. During a speech at Mississippi State University on Wednesday night, Romney was heavily critical of Clinton's foreign policy work.

"Secretary of State Hillary Clinton cluelessly pressed a reset button for Russia, which smiled and then invaded Ukraine, a sovereign nation," Romney said. "The Middle East and much of North Africa is in chaos. China grows more assertive and builds a navy that will be larger than ours in five years. We shrink our nuclear capabilities as Russia upgrades theirs."

Romneys and Clintons Lunch: What Would Miss Manners Say?

The event, conceived of weeks ago, was to be the picture of bipartisanship: members of the Romney and Clinton clans, sitting side by side at a luncheon in Manhattan.

But Friday’s hush-hush event — featuring Ann and Mitt Romney as well as Chelsea Clinton and her husband, Marc Mezvinsky — just got a little awkward.

The family is still so angry at former Congressman Edward Mezvinsky that he's on the outs with most of them. In 2002, Mezvinsky pleaded guilty to 31 counts of fraud. He ripped off friends and family, including his mother in law, for $10 million. His wife divorced him. "Basically," says a friend, "he stole all her money."

The link also says Bill Clinton appreciated Marc's mother's vote for this tax plan (which created the surplus Bush burned through). A return to that tax rate was what Obama based his budget upon, as the Bush tax cut was due by law to sunset December 31, 2010 and go straight back there.

Then came the Tea Party and the rest is history, as they were elected to do the Koch agenda, pass Keystone, end taxes and all social net programs and they've worked on it every single year.

I cannot remember a time when the Middle East and much of North Africa was not in chaos. Think WWII. Think the Suez crisis. Think Palestine. Think Iran. Eisenhower is the one who blew tranquility in the Middle East.

As for China -- we messed that up in WWII too. Read Theodore H. White, In Search of History, A Personal Adventure. He was a reporter in China right before WWII broke out when Mao and Chiang Kai Shek were vying for power. White advised that we be more friendly to Mao. We picked Chiang kay Shek. Big mistake. We ended up having to deal with the Communists on friendly terms anyway after the Viet Nam War. We could have had more influence from the beginning maybe and avoided a lot of suffering for the Chinese people.

Romney does not know his history. Wouldn't it be nice to have a president who at least read a little history now and then even if we can't have a scientist in the White House?

I'm not a historian yet I read enough history to know at least these little details.

Who are these people who run for president? What do they do in the time they spend on airplanes flying around? Don't they read? Maybe we should pitch in and buy Romney a Kindle or sign him up for his local library?

They have no interest in history, science, nature, literature, culture, governing or government, only money and business. sown way back in 1919 with the peace treaty that ended WWI and of course earlier than that.

Blaming Hillary Clinton or Obama for the mess in Iraq is way off base although Bill Clinton probably did not help things. George H.W. Bush's handling of the dispute with Iraq set things back too.
