MSNBC Cancels Ronan Farrow’s Show Along with Joy Reid’s
Source: Mediaite
In addition to canceling Joy Reids daytime show The Reid Report, which MSNBC sources confirmed to Mediaite earlier today, the network is also canceling Ronan Farrows show and moving Way Too Earlys Thomas Roberts back to a dayside role, anchoring a straight news show from 1-3 p.m. ET daily
Neither Reid nor Farrow have been fired by the network. Reid will become MSNBCs national correspondent, producing original reporting for on air and online programming. Farrow is expected to host a new series of primetime specials for MSNBC and will be featured as a special correspondent across the networks schedule.
The change in daytime programming represents a conscious shift by the network away from more opinionated hosts and towards a more news-focused lineup. Following Morning Joe, José Díaz-Balarts show will air for two hours starting at 9 a.m., followed by Tamron Hall at 11, Andrea Mitchell at 12 and then Roberts from 1-3 p.m. each day.
Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski will fill in for Roberts on Way Too Early until a more permanent replacement is found.

(86,586 posts)totally restructured their online availability too. Not sure I'm liking it... started yesterday. Now I have to reset all my links to the shows I like and hope they will show them on the same day as they used to. I don't have TeeVee so I watch news online. A lot of places, like CSPAN want you to log in to watch. If I have to log in to watch, I have other things I'd rather be doing.

(34,136 posts)Since the earlier part of their morning program is full of opinionated hosts. They are still leaving Andrea Mitchell at noon and the twits on The Cycle at 3, neither show is worth watching.
It will be nice seeing Thomas Roberts again - I enjoy him!

(34,136 posts)Ronan Farrow is OK, just needed more seasoning as a news reporter before he got a show of his own. But he was not worth changing back to watch.
Scarborough is why I never watch Up Too Early even if I am awake at that hour - I might actually leave the TV on that channel and break my neck trying to change away from his show!

Yet they keep Morning Joe?
By the way, did he ever plead guilty to murdering the female aide found dead in his district office?

(429 posts)Phil Griffin, MSNBC's president in the one that should be fired. He gave Joy a terrible time-slot when she should have been in prime time. The strong pundit you saw during the presidential election had her wings clipped.
Phil Griffin is a Republican who has been with MSNBC since the 1990's. If you recall during the 1990's, MSNBC was exclusively right-wing. Ann Coulter, Laura Ingraham, Michael Savage and Tucker Carlson were all host with MSNBC. Unless, they get rid of Phil Griffin, the whole network is doomed. He was the idiot who fired their best host, Keith Obermann. From that point on everything he has done has been a blunder. If I want to build a strong hen-house- you don't hire a wolf as contractor. But MSNBC has put a conservative in charge of so called liberal shows.

(7,006 posts)And frankly the rest of their line up leaves more than a bit to be desired --- with some FEW exceptions, starting with:
Morning Pluke and his Stepford Wife Mika whatever her last name is.
Jose - Need to Return ASAP back to the Spanish language NBC Network Channel. He's Awful.
Love Tamron Hall --- LOVE TAMRON HALL and she is the best Straight News (since MSNBC is suppose to be a "News" Network ) they have, period.
Andrea Greenspan -- Skip It.
Ronan Farrow -- So did he originally gain this position because he is suppose to be Frank "Ole' Blue Eyes" son? Ronan had no value, no substance, no depth, no nothing. Not a loss.
Joy Ann Reid -- Pundit, not show host. Enough Said.
Thomas Roberts -- Second best straight news anchor on this network. Thank Goodness he's back doing what he does best --- the news .
The Cycle - Three bobbleheads with the exception of Attorney Ari Melber. Ari needs his OWN SHOW!!
Alex Wagner - Snoozefest
The Ed Show - Love him but he is not a news anchor . Still Ed is watchable unlike...
Fake, Phony, "Civil Rights Activist" - "Rev" Al. PLZ -- His cozy glamour shot with no other than Sister "Valley Trash from Wasilla, AK" Sarah Palin said everything one needed to know about him. Betcha Keith Olbermann never would have stood within 10 feet of this vile Woman.
Chris Matthews - Love Tweety, Hate Tweety -- either way Tweety is what the real MSNBC before the invasion of pundit-nation who the network propped in a chair with cue cards and gave them a prime time show --- looks like. Tweety stays put!
Chris Hayes - Good guy but too much like his conjoined twin in the next hour.
Rachel Maddow - By the time she starts, I'm on Discovery ID as I don't need the story line repeated 10 times in a 15 minute segment.
Lawrence O' Donnell - No, thank you. Period.
In the end, MSNBC need to fire Phil Griffin -- bring back Keith Olbermann (BEG KEITH IF ONE HAS TOO) and hire a true NEWS Chairman to run the network --- before the network is a memory of the past.
Meanwhile, the talent on Free Speech TV and Progressive Internet based Talk Radio is awesome sauce....

(67,782 posts)....was a little stiff and strained. He's very good as an on-site reporter, but not as a studio host.
I'll wait to see how the new news show works out, but there seems to be less and less to watch on MSNBC.

(10,336 posts)decide whether they are even worth turning on. The whole operation needs a hard left shift, and stay in that lane. Don't deviate, don't appease, and don't pay any attention to ratings. How would that be for a few years? And for God's sake, bring back Olbermann, no matter how much ass-kissing and crow network execs have to eat. I don't care if it would be deemed as caving or not, but oh well. Sometimes your entire business knows itself better than you do, yo?

(7,006 posts)Would be the ONLY THING this so-called "News Network" could do to gain my viewership past Tamron Hall, Thomas Roberts, Tweety (depending on the day), Ed Schultz (let ED be the firebrand host -- and that's enough please), giving Ari Melber his OWN SHOW and of course Keith Olbermann. That's a winning line up with adding Thom Hartmann into the mix!
The rest of the crew (yes, including Rachel) need to be pundits at best as they are not any form of what-so-ever --- news anchors!!

(2,004 posts)prayer breakfast speech. She did not fall for the fear mongering about the Muslim religion. I will follow her wherever she ends up. I hope we can hear more from her. She is a very smart person.
I still like the Rev, Ed, and Chris Hayes. I do not like Kornacki on the weekends, he just does not have the chops that Hayes had for the weekend show. I always watched Chris Hayes on the weekends and learned a lot and then generally watched Melissa Harris Perry. Kornacki is taking her ratings down, I bet. Hayes' evening show is good and always informative, the weekend show was one of the best morning shows created.
Ed Schultz needs to stick with going after big oil and protecting unions. He does a really great job when he is talking about the environment and working class issues.
I like the Rev just because he does care for ordinary people. He has started doing a little more of a lightweight show and I do not care for it as much. It seems to me he does not care for the current format either.
Good luck to Joy Reid. MSNBC needs to can Mrs. Greenspan, her show is unwatchable unless you like the usual right wing propaganda. She is terrible and has trouble speaking now. It is a disgrace that Scarborough has a show.

(135,425 posts)They should use the affiliate network pf stations from coast to coast and start carrying more local news nationally. It's what cable is great at, and they have the resources at their command. Just about every affiliate has at least ONE good news story a week--some have several. They should start mixing those in with national reports, it will keep the news "fresh" to those in other regions (but who, in our increasingly mobile society, either lived elsewhere or knows someone who lives in other parts of USA). This will require having a producer actively swapping out stories and not rerunning the same report three times in a row without change--but it could put more eyeballs on screens.
Also, when they do punditry, they might want to shake up the one hour format. Better to leave people wanting more--go to a half hour, pack it full and keep it moving.
That's what I'd do. The shit is just unwatchable right now. And I'm not just talking about MSNBC--CNN, even BBCA are just BORING, by and large. I watch the French and Italian news, just because it's different.

(12,296 posts).... I noticed (before I ditched cable a couple months back) that there would be one consistent 'thread' throughout Tweety, Sharpton, Ed, Maddow and O'Donnell ... we could expect to see/hear the same 'story' covered 5 times in one night.
I'd like each show to cover different issues ... that's why they're different anchors with different show titles. And Goddess knows there's enough breath taking insanity coming from the right to cover more than one issue at a time.
But that's just my .02

(4,458 posts)is all about corporate messaging. The one thing Libs/Progs aren't into and can typically detect a mile away---is Bull Shit.
It's Not the people on camera...It's the directive from the people who are Firing them...that Is the problem.
They are, seemingly, Not interested in viewers opinions about preferred Fact Based News...They simply want us to be Content over the content of garbage they ask us to pay for, and perhaps be more like the morbidly curious FOX viewers?
It may be more about people disconnecting cable all together for those reasons....MSNBC isn't the only one suffering a dis-interested audience, after-all.
They have and will continue to deny the reality: "it's them, not us" who are basically bring down the "MSM Entertainment System"....
Any bs I pay for these days goes directly in my garden.
All in my opinion, of course
