Comcast Made $68 Billion in 2014

Source: Philadelphia Magazine

It was another great year for Comcast. The Philadelphia-based company earned $68.8 billion during 2014, officials said in a quarterly earnings report this morning. That’s a 6.4 percent increase over 2013’s take of $64.6 billion; excluding the Olympics, which brought the company $1.1 billion through its NBCUniversal division, revenue was still up 4.7 percent.

The result of all that success? The company is increasing its stock dividend by $1 per share — the seventh consecutive year of a dividend increase — and announcing it will buy back $4.25 billion in stock during 2015.

Comcast continued to lose cable customers — down 194,000 for the year — but came out ahead in the other two legs of its "triple-play" offerings: Broadband Internet customers increased by 1.2 million households, and the company also added 470,000 voice customers.

"For the fourth quarter of 2014, revenue from the Theme Parks segment increased 29.9% to $735 million compared to $566 million in the fourth quarter of 2013, reflecting higher guest attendance and per capita spending, driven by the continued success of Orlando’s The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Diagon Alley, as well as Halloween Horror Nights at the Orlando and Hollywood parks."

We are unfortunately in a 'Comcast only' building.

Here's a tip: Cancel your service with them. Call and cancel when they jack up your bill after an 'offer period ends.'

I guarantee you that you will be able to retain the same rate, but also possibly get a better rate or additional services for free.

After a year of Internet only my monthly rate went up 20 bucks. I called, got my old rate back, AND got them to throw in a free cable box for local channels. So I'll be putting away the HD antenna (we rarely watch broadcast TV anyway). Mostly we watch content on our Apple TV, Hulu, and Netflix.

Pretty good synopsis of how to deal with Comcast here...

Where are the anti-trust laws in this country they are on the books, but we don't enforce them. We need competition that is the equalizer.

6. With so much profit they'll CERTAINLY lower rates for consumers and increase pay for employees

Comcast is such an upstanding company I have no doubt whatsoever that our rates will drop (even if by just a few percent) and each and every employee will get a handsome raise. Oh, and I almost forget to mention that I'm also certain they'll invest in infrastructure and get our internet speeds on par with most of the rest of the world.
