A Hillary Clinton Email the State Department Couldn't Find

Hillary Clinton supporters have defended her use of a private email account to conduct official State Department business by arguing that she emailed colleagues at their government addresses, ensuring that a copy of the correspondence would be retained on government servers and available to archivists. As it turns out, some aides to Hillary Clinton also used private email addresses. But even if Team Hillary's initial claim had held together, it wouldn't matter. Public records laws encompass not just correspondence with other government employees but also emails with third parties about government business.
That's why a particular email flagged by J.K. Trotter is important. Back in 2013, a hacker secured access to the private email account of Sidney Blumenthal, a staffer in Bill Clinton's White House. The hacker sent screenshots of his inbox to various news outlets, including Gawker. "According to those screenshots, Blumenthal was regularly sending Clinton what appeared to be freelance intelligence reportsincluding information and advice about the 2012 attacks in Benghazi, Libyaall of which clearly fell under the rubric of official State Department business," Trotter writes. "At the time, Gawker noted that Clintons apparent use of the non-official account likely violated federal regulations governing records retention, and sent inquiries directly to Clinton and to the White House asking if messages to the clintonemail.com address were being retained."
"The State Department replied to our request by saying that, after an extensive search, it could find no records responsive to our request," Trotter writes. "That is not to say that they found the emails and refused to release themit is conceivable, after all, that the State Department might have attempted to deny the release of the Clinton-Blumenthal correspondence on grounds of national security or Blumenthals own privacy. Instead, the State Department confirmed that it didnt have the emails at all."

(48,962 posts)That's your problem? A poster posted an article from Yahoo news on a democratic message board? Where posters post articles about news and discuss current events.

(38,437 posts)It's one thing to turn one's back on a real problem and pretend it doesn't exist. Yeah, that sucks.
It's quite another call out a malicious smear campaign based on previously debunked bullshit and say, "Get that bullshit out of here!"

(38,437 posts)... when DUers (who may or may not be progressive/Democrat/liberal) so gleefully post it. I'd feel better about it if I could be certain that only rightwing knuckledragging trolls were posting this shit, but I have a horrible feeling that it is being promoted here by Hillary haters. (For the record, I will vote for just about anyone over Hillary in the Dem primary).
As for the innocence of posting current events here: GOP political smears are a very special form of current event. Just as I know that there are poisonous snake outside, I know that I can easily avoid them. When my brother insists on bringing them in the house, I tell him he's an asshole.

should do something else.
The GOP means to take over the country, if you start whining now,
you will not help the democratic party, or Hillary.
Fight back, don't whine!!!
question everything
(52,132 posts)in the first place. Someone should ask her. I, as a supporter, want to know.
My other question is why the recipients of her emails never question that. When I get an email from a regular correspondent and I notice a new address, I always add it to my addressbook.
One would think that someone should ask: what is this Clintonemail.com? (Or something like that).

(38,437 posts)I would also say that the stuff she really, really didn't want anybody to see was never ever emailed in the first place. Electronically communicated but not by email.

There's also a typosquatter at clintonmail.com (no 'e' in front of 'mail'). Domain registered long before this story broke. I'm very curious who did that.

(46,416 posts)all cabinet officers do, and I don't think it's wrong, necessarily. But why not be open with it? If she used Blumenthal's little intel reports to make decisions, then the public has a right to know that. She never forwarded the emails to a government system, and without the hack, we'd have never known. That's why her set-up was wrong and unethical. Edit to add: her set-up was almost certainly also hacked at some point, as well.

It's my guess that the "60+ demographic" is rather a large one, and very prone to showing up on voting day. Do you have any information on the degree of "blindness" they suffer from? Please share any data you have on what could be an important consideration in the 2016 election.

(5,402 posts)Besides, the seniors will vote mostly for Republicans. Hillary's biggest supporters tend to be (note that phrase "tend to be"
senior women who will overlook anything because of the dazzling glamour of the possibility of a woman president.
In general, they don't really care or question if she would be a good President, just as long as she has her turn. This, of course, will not tip the scales in the favor of a Democratic win.
It will be the young and minority voters, those who are familiar with the technology of the day and holding the dirty end of the economic disparity stick, who will carry this election. If the DLC succeeds in crowning Ms. Walmart Van Warmonger as Queen of the Democrats, too many people will have zero motivation to vote.
Check this out

You are welcome.

(84,711 posts)is where Sid Blumenthal was getting his info...and since reports were that he was not favored by the Obama Administration to serve at SD...then who was he working for at the time.
I read the Guccifer Hack Screenshot of her e-mail over at "Gawker," after another DU'er gave a link on a thread in "GD." Whether it's true, or not, that Obama Admin kept Sid out of serving in SD the subject lines of the e-mails seemed to show he was sending her info that could possibly sway her views as SOS. They are long time friends so that might not be out of the ordinary....but, who was employing Sid at the time. I didn't see anything that explained it...but, then I'm not a regular "Gawker"reader and don't even know if they are reliable for info.

We need a nominee who isn't in an sordid relationship with entitlement, power and money.

(40,037 posts)this allegedly occurred back in 2013. The email was sent to her or an email account purported to be hers.
Most of the e-mail recipients were sent four separate memos that were e-mailed to Clinton by Blumenthal during the past five months. Each memo dealt with assorted developments in Libya, including the September 11, 2012 attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi. One memo marked Confidential was sent to Clinton on September 12.
Blumenthals memos and e-mails to Clinton were sent to her at a non-governmental e-mail address through the web domain "clintonemail.com."
Blumenthal was not in government service
I get hundreds of e-mails fill with political crap that I just delete...so where is the secret stuff this person citizen Blumenthal was sending.
