Chelsea Clinton 'Absolutely' Open To Running For Office
Source: BuzzFeed
Chelsea Clinton said in an interview Monday that she would absolutely be open to running for office in the future.
Attending the unveiling of her mothers long awaited No Ceilings report measuring the progress of womens rights over the last 20 years, Clinton told Sky News that while she had no immediate political ambitions, that could change.
Absolutely, Id consider it one day, she said of running for public office.
For the time being, though, Chelsea said she supported her local, state, and national representatives.

(37,428 posts)This is a puff piece, with idiot media asking a nothing question. No, Chelsea is not going to commit to running for any particular office; nor will she rule it out. Didn't need to be asked at all, and it is not worth a headline.

(1,644 posts)I believe that the American people are tired and suspicious of dynasties. So, whether it be Bush, Clinton, Kennedy or whatever, I think it will be hard for someone to be elected president just because they have a certain last name.

Where do you get sexism in this? She's an ex-hedge fund manager with bad genes. We do not need another one of those in public office.

(28,082 posts)I'm inclined to think that happened before you saw my post. The removed post made reference to Chelsea being a new mother my response was only to point out that a new father would not be questioned that way. However, the idea of another Clinton running for anything does NOT make my toes tingle.

(59,504 posts)Thanks to the good sense of her parents, we know very little about her childhood and adolescence. What we do know is that she is very smart.
It is true that she worked for a hedge fund. It is also true that she is now working for the Clinton Foundation. In terms of running for public office, she is not saying that is something she will do now - or even soon. By then, her resume will be the programs and leadership that she provides the family foundation. She is in a position to do a lot of good. (In fact, possibly more good than serving in the office.)
Adenoid_Hynkel
(14,093 posts)And chose that path over all the other endless options available to her.
The followed up with a $600,000 fake journalism job without paying her dues, while NBC was laying off actual reporters.
And landing a cushy job at daddy's vanity charity isn't an accomplishment. We'd laugh at the Bushes for that sort of thing.
Time will tell. If she does good in the position, more power to her, but anyone clamoring for her to run for office now is just starstruck by American royalty.

Chelsea Clinton IS brilliant, like her parents. The Bush clan are carpetbagging opportunists, and not all that bright.

She's basically a princess or a grand duchess, who we're supposed to revere because of who her parents are.
She's done nothing to distinguish herself outside of the family name.

(6,960 posts)Well, this "of the people, for the people, by the people" stuff has been overrated anyway.
Shucks, all we need are three or four families, a few mega-bankers and a few corporate super-CEOs to run the whole country ... maybe the entire world.
But seriously, Chelsea didn't do her mom any favors with this kind of statement -- dynastic talk is the last thing we all want to hear.
Actually, I think this whole Clinton inevitability is going to be derailed this year ... old Hill won't even make it as a candidate to 2016.

(22,000 posts)If I was a Clinton supporter, this is one of the last things I'd want her to say. She has plenty of time to declare her intentions to run if she so chooses as she is still young. I know people on DU get their rocks off about the possibility of her running some day (there are quite a few people on DU that support the idea of a Clinton dynasty), but given the very strong possibility that her mom is running for president she would have been better off deflecting the question.
The talk of a dynasty will turn most voters off.

(37,748 posts)I'd want to see her platform. Other than that, it seems (at best) both shallow and absurd to cast a vote or deny a vote for a candidate predicated solely on DNA and genetics.
However, I can certainly empathize with half-wits who attribute her only accomplishment as working for for Avenue Capital... it's a convenient avenue to deny additional and relevant information.
