So lets cut to the chase.
Sneed is told by impeccable sources that President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, want to live in New York when they leave the White House.
They want New York, plain and simple, said a top Sneed source who asked to remain anonymous but has a relationship with the Obamas.

I have a friend deeply involved in the Chicago Democratic Party who told this a year ago, and that said the Obama Library would come to Chicago to soften the blow.

(29,503 posts)New York is where most everything happens. Chicago is big, but dowdy, like a babushka; like the Brooklyn of yesteryear - some place you're FROM, not some place you GO.
New York, in contrast, is big, bold, and busy, like a genuine capitol; you leave BROOKLYN for NEW YORK; that's how magnetic it is. Sorry, Chicago.

(26,060 posts)comeback in the last 10 years. It's now just as expensive in the Heights, Williamsburg and Park Slope as it is in Manhattan. That said, NY would welcome all the Obama's with open arms.

(29,503 posts)traditionally, Brooklyn was, basically, a punchline; even if you dispute that, New York (meaning Manhattan) has been the center of the New World, in contrast to London or Paris being the Old World capitols.
Anyway, who knows. If I were them, I'd be looking out west, lol - love it out there.

(6,944 posts)Having spent time in both, I've found Chicago to be quite as vibrant as New York.

(6,944 posts)I've had family from Wales, Poland and Ukraine visit me over the years, and without exception they have all liked Chicago better than NYC. They didn't HATE NYC, or fail to have a good time there, but they just liked the 'feel' of Chicago better.

(450 posts)Oh please make sure they DO move to Manhattan, as Obama has demonstrated he clearly feels closer to Wall Street than any other street in the entire country.
As a Chicagoan, I do NOT want them back nor do I want the Obama Library in my city. Let those fancy, much cooler, hip Manhattan/NYC taxpayers foot part of the bill - not we poor country-folk in Chicago.
Gee, with no beauty in our too-flat city we wouldn't want to embarrass the Wall Street Obamas with our non-cool ugly city as their library's home. Everyone knows that Chicago doesn't know a thing about architecture.
Thanks NYC and you cool Manhattan folks. Be sure to welcome them (and their traffic jams) with open whatever. Oh, that's right, NYC is too hip to welcome anyone.

(95,695 posts)FWIW - Bill Clinton has been here for 15-odd years. Or as we call it, Tuesday.

(450 posts)Tuesday (aka Bill Clinton) is a perfect fit for New York as his deregulation of Wall Street etc. gave us the financial mess and economic disaster for millions of the 99%. But Bill's official home is in Chappaqua, New York - not the city.

(95,695 posts)And by the way, how much will you be coughing up for Elizabeth Warren, so she won't need to come to Wall Street for her Senate campaign? (The last time she was here, the cocktails were lovely...).

(5,141 posts)The traffic was INSANE. I worked on the Upper East Side and the minute hed land at the heliport right off the FDR drive, they shut the FDR, the Deegan into 87 and the Saw Mill River Parkway. That was my commute route. My 40 minute drive turned into a 3 hour nightmare.
That said, I did run into him in a local park while I was walking my dog and he was jogging (accompanied by about 30 Secret Service Agents). I can tell you, after just talking to him about dogs and how nice the park was for about 10 minutes, I know why people say hes charismatic...and why the ladies dig him.

(18,470 posts)I'm partial to Chicago myself. (Not some parts of the government there, mind you). But I really like visiting Chicago. I don't like driving to or from there but I always seem to have the absolute best time in Chicago when I go there. And I say that having been to New York City - there's just something about Chicago that makes it seems more, I dunno, alive, than NYC does. Still NYC is quite the town, with good public transportation and plenty of character.
Of course it's all up to POTUS and FLOTUS where they want to live after Jan 2017.
