Flying is not really a super lucrative career any more and the job requirements are quite tough as it is.

Tighter screening means that those who are having mental problems will try harder and harder to hide them which basically means avoiding treatment at all costs.

I think mental health screening for pilots is a good idea in theory but I can see how it could be counterproductive in some ways.

...oughtn't be flying nor carrying lethal weapons, if they've been diagnosed with severe depression. In my opinion.

You think it was more dangerous today than it was a week ago? You think you have a greater chance of flying into a mountain than suffering a fatal car crash?

It's time to put on your big boy pants.

Due to a chance of more rigid screening after this latest incident of murder/suicide.

……safer than driving on the freeway. Most drivers have no mental health exams either and many are texting and some are drunk. It's just that a plane crash violate our expectations more than a car crash does.
