(45,851 posts)Flying is not really a super lucrative career any more and the job requirements are quite tough as it is.
Tighter screening means that those who are having mental problems will try harder and harder to hide them which basically means avoiding treatment at all costs.
I think mental health screening for pilots is a good idea in theory but I can see how it could be counterproductive in some ways.

(9,870 posts)safer than driving on the freeway. Most drivers have no mental health exams either and many are texting and some are drunk. It's just that a plane crash violate our expectations more than a car crash does.
