.....According to the video, the final question Hewitt asked Walker was, "Does the prospect of being commander in chief daunt you? Because the world that you describe when you're talking about safety is going to require a commitment to American men and women abroad, obviously at some point. How do you think about that?"
Walker first acknowledged, "That's an appropriate question."
"As a kid, I was in Scouts. And one of the things Im proudest of when I was in Scouts is I earned the rank of Eagle," Walker said. "Being an Eagle Scout is one of the few things you get as a kid that, you are not the past, its something you are."
......................
He then drew from his Eagle Scout experience discussing his military philosophy.
"America is an exceptional country," Walker said. "And I think, unfortunately, sometimes there are many in Washington who think those of us who believe we are exceptional means we are superior, that we're better than others in the world.
"And to me, much like my thought process of being an Eagle Scout is, no, being an exceptional country means we have a higher responsibility ... not just to care for ourselves and our own interests, but to lead in the world, to ensure that all freedom-loving people have the capacity, who yearn for that freedom, to have that freedom."
Speaking to his military strategy, Walker said the U.S. needs to engage in military action when appropriate, but that it must be done with "a plan and a charge that ultimately leads to victory."

It was a softball interview by a RW radio host.

(1,587 posts)There's no way in hell you can get to be president in this day and age.
Take into consideration the following
The Eagle Pledge:
I affirm my allegiance to the three promises of the Scout Oath.
I thoughtfully recognize and take upon myself the obligations and responsibilities of an Eagle Scout. On my honor, I will do my best to make my training an example and my status and my influence count strongly for better Scouting and for better citizenship in my troop, in my community, and in my contacts with other people.
To this I pledge my sacred honor.
The Scout Oath:
On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.
The Scout Law:
A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.
Nothing in the above sounds in any way remotely connected to Scott Walker.
(BTW, the last Eagle to be POTUS was Gerry Ford!)

(3,974 posts)He played the Eagle Scout card on the 7 year old boy who outwitted him at CPAC, too. Didn't work then, and it doesn't work now.
Walker has a complete lack of "real world" experiences to draw on or to give him a frame of reference. He's been campaigning since he was a teenager, and that's all he's been doing for over 25 years, leaving him nothing more than an uneducated, smooth talking salesman reciting meaningless talking points. Keep using the Eagle Scout stories- I hope to see them in the debates.

(14,691 posts)this is irony, isnt' it? or self-effacing wit? He can't possibly be serious!!! But more importantly, how many people out there DO think he's qualified because he was an Eagle Scout?

(16,296 posts)had a friend whose father bought him the rank. Small town, big businessman wanted his son to become an Eagle Scout and gifts were exchanged. The kid didn't even go to meetings and skipped over many of the stages of advancement. When I asked him about all the badges on that sash, he couldn't even name a few of them.

(3,974 posts)The Eagle Scout stuff is getting old. Here's a brief commentary on Walker overusing the Eagle Scout stories from 2012:
There have been very prominent Eagle Scouts that have committed atrocious crimes and the media fully knows this - Arthur Gary Bishop, a serial killer; Mark William Hoffman, a forger and murderer: and Charles Whitman, the Texas tower sniper, are three national news stories that come to mind. . .
This is propaganda, misinformation that is disseminated via mass media for a purpose - in this case, allowing folks like Wisconsin's Deceiver-in-Chief, Scott Walker, to hide behind a Boys Scout badge. His claims are fully-irrational, but highly emotional to those that hold the belief and attitude that the Boy Scouts beyond approach. This is how propaganda works - its all based on emotions, though some skewed rational is often present so that people can justify their emotional responses.
LINK Eagle Scout Arthur Gary Bishop (child molester and serial killer)
LINK Eagle Scout Charles Whitman (Texas Tower sniper)
LINK Eagle Scout Mark Hofmann ( counterfeiter, forger and convicted murderer)
LINK Eagle Scout Scott Walker (career politician)

I too am over 35 but was not an eagle scout but was in the military so I am even MORE Qualified to be president.
Elect me an I shall make it my objective to have universal HC, legalize weed, cut DoD Budget, go after ALL domestic terrorists and arrest Bush and Cheney and turn them over to the Hague for war Crimes and a whole bunch of other cool shit like banksters hanging by their entrails or at least perp walked and sent to really shitty prisons.
My inauguration would feature George Clinton and free weed on the mall for all!
Any way can I have your vote?

And looking into the future, we see President Walker meeting with his cabinet in February, 2017, to discuss new strategies for the wars with Iran, Switzerland, New Zealand, and Antarctica.

Scott Walker suggests being an Eagle Scout has prepared him to be...
Scott Walker's Eagle Scout status has him so prepared, he indicated this week, he's ready to serve as commander in chief of the U.S. military.

(15,882 posts)was an Eagle Scout. When I kinda dissed that as being relevant, my boss piped up "Well, I was an Eagle Scout". So we hired the guy.

Guess he was prepared.

(36,437 posts)As much as Scott Walker is a living and walking douchenozzle, we have to stand firm on the notion that one needs ZERO military preparation to be Commander-in-Chief. We are not a war state, but a Republic.

(3,974 posts)If Sarah Palin had ever suggested she could step in as Commander-in-Chief because she'd been a Girl Scout, she'd have been laughed off the stage even faster, but some reason, Walker can step just as deeply into full Onion mode without instantaneous disqualification...

I think this is an interesting observation by James Rowen. If a woman made any one of a number of naive or convoluted or manipulative or simply dishonest statements Walker has made during his campaign, she would be dismissed as not being up to the job- "Let a man take over, honey. He'll get a free pass on that stuff."

(17,599 posts)So far he's said he's qualified to face off with ISIS because he dealt with the Wisconsin teachers union... and that he's qualified to command the US military because he was once an Eagle Scout. I believe he's also qualified to tackle health care because he once watched an episode of "General Hospital."
