Poll: Ted Cruz's GOP Support Jumps By Double Digits
Source: TPM
Within two weeks of announcing his candidacy for president, Ted Cruz's support among Republican voters has jumped by double digits in a new poll.
The Texas senator's support rose from 5 percent to 16 percent in a little over a month, according to a national survey of 443 national Republican primary voters released Wednesday by Public Policy Polling.
That puts him in "top tier of GOP contenders," PPP concluded, coming in third place behind Scott Walker, who led with 20 percent, and Jeb Bush, who had 17 percent.
Notably, Walker's support fell from 25 percent, while Bush's support stayed at 17 percent a sign that Cruz may be siphoning support from the Wisconsin governor. Behind Cruz were Ben Carson and Rand Paul tied with 10 percent; Marco Rubio and Mike Huckabee tied with 6 percent; Chris Christie with 4 percent and Rick Perry with 3 percent.

(4,450 posts)Cruz is the best thing to happen to Jeb. Cruz and Walker will split the far right vote in the primary, and when the "mainstream" R's come into the process late, Jeb wins.

- don't talk about your positions
- highlight a glossy biography
- avoid the press

(4,450 posts)I guess this will be the test to see whether the Kochs have become as/more powerful than the RNC establishment. Can they do it on the national level? Time (and an obscene amount of money) will tell.

(14,575 posts)the clown car will roll up with a half dozen or more of these twits, who siphon votes off of one another, and the name/"moderate" candidate (McCain, Romney, now Jeb) will muddle through to get the nomination.

(41,867 posts)Cruz seems unbalanced, and Walker is just "Junkyard" mean. I don't know which would be worse.

(4,450 posts)He is undoubtedly junkyard mean. His actions, so many of them done with pure spite, have illustrated this clearly. However, he has thus far displayed an ability to come off in person and in interviews (carefully chosen interviews with friendly, conservative media outlets of course) as very affable and easygoing. He appears to so many to be a "regular guy" who would probably mow your lawn for you while you're away on vacation. The guy who would take your trash to the curb on garbage day if you forgot. This is not Rush Limbaugh screaming into a microphone- he's more like Ronnie Reagan in a sweater, speaking in comforting tones about "common sense solutions and hope and a better tomorrow."
It's all an act of course. He doesn't give a rip about the people of Wisconsin (he's not even from here) or anybody else. Now that he has "gone national" he has even dropped the nasal mid-western accent we have here- no more "Wiscahnsin." The same may of course also be true of Cruz. I just don't know him as well.

(26,549 posts)All they need is a "Republican-lite" campaign from the Democrats. Then it's a base-vs-base election.

(10,237 posts)I'd really love to see Ted Cruz in that same boat. I expect that either would take the thumping that te Republican/teabagger party deserves!
The only way to get rid of the teabaggers is for them to take a 40 state drubbing ala Goldwater in 1964. Idiotically, the establishment Republicans seem to think that the way to "vanquish" the teabaggers is to surrender to them totally!
If my parents' generation thought that way we'd be speaking German today...Yikes!
PEACE!

trying to make a political horse race and the sad part is, if the money people want him along with large numbers allegedly voting for this POS, he'll win. What a fucked up system that people like him and christie can be seen and touted as viable candidates. Fucked up!

(5,106 posts)Wow. Just Wow. And now just 20% for Walker? Both of them make Nixon look like Captain America in terms of clean cut appeal. Unfortunately it will probably come down to yet another Bush, when push comes to shove. Disheartening is too mild a word, but hopefully it will help the Dems.

(60 posts)Wisconsinite here... It's going to be glorious when Scott Walker loses his own state in the 2016 general...
Obama wins by insane margins, we have a lesbian senator... our teabags area 2010 holdovers.... and nobody gives a damn about the state houses... There is no state party here. None... but at least at federal level we're decent human beings..
