WikiLeaks Truck Owner Arrested For Photographing Cops; Image Deleted
By Carlos Miller
Metropolitan Transit Authority police arrested a man for photographing them at Penn Station in New York City this afternoon deleting his photo before releasing him from a jail cell an hour later. Clark Stoeckley was issued a summons charging him with engaging in threatening behavior.
I was walking through Penn Station and I came across these MTA cops with semi-automatic weapons, he said in a phone interview with Photography is Not a Crime. I stopped to take a photo and the cop came up to me and arrested me. I asked, why am I being arrested?
Because youre a dick, the officer responded. While in custody, Stoeckley asked the cop why he felt threatened by a cell phone when he was carrying a semi-automatic gun.
"'Because it could have been a phone gun,'" the cop responded.

(6,670 posts)They've crossed every "police state" line that I've drawn.
But it CAN'T be a police state! It CAN'T!
Because I work for them, and don't want to face what I'm doing for a living...
People always leave the last line off of that argument, though.

Might be time to invest in a GoPro camera. Mount it where it'll do the job. Then let Anonymous "DOX" the pigs caught on it.Test the legality of that technique.

(345 posts)A Smartphone will do the job. Some of them can be programmed to instantly transmit what was just recorded via email to anyone, including YouTube. In addition to the smartphone, button cams, pen cams and others can record the same thing - some with sound.
It is going to get more interesting as time passes.

(28,498 posts)The can't be grounds for arrest. If it were, several members of the Bush family would be in jail now, not to mention Cheney, FOX News "journalists," and the entire GOP...

(12,541 posts)the authorities every time they see someone with a phone and report is as possible terrorist behavior. Terrorists use cell phones, and you just can't be too careful. They could also be phone guns that emit a radioactive death ray.
Mayor Goonberg and his brownshirts have to get sued every time they abuse the authority the people granted them.
