People Missing After "Pancake Collapse" at Watergate Complex Parking Garage

Source: NBC

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser confirms that some people are missing following a three-story collapse at a Watergate complex parking garage Friday morning.

"Not everyone is accounted for," she said.

The "pancake collapse" at the garage has also injured at least one person and crushed at least one vehicle Friday morning.

Three stories of the garage apparently collapsed, said D.C. Fire & EMS spokesman Oscar Mendez. Firefighters were called to the scene just after 10 a.m. Friday.

The garage is in the Rosslyn part of Arlington, a few blocks from the Metro stop. I've been to the spot. It's really creepy, even in the middle of the day.

There are or were plans to replace the garage with a new office building.

If there's a coverup as to the cause of the collapse, what could they possibly call it?

There will still be fires burning there six weeks from now. I'm sure a few weeks from now the temperature readings will still exceed 1000 degrees. Notice the girders that flew out and got imbedded in the surrounding buildings, and the I-beams twisted like a pretzel, and all the charred vehicles. Happens every time.

I remember when several apartment buildings "pancake collapsed" during the 1994 earthquake in Los Angeles. Many died in their beds.

This is a common term.
