Houston-based Occidental names Vicki Hollub to top job

Houston-based Occidental Petroleum Corp. has named Vicki Hollub as its next CEO, making her the first woman to lead a major U.S. exploration and production company.

Hollub is Occidental’s senior executive vice president and president of Oxy Oil and Gas, responsible for operations in the United States, the Middle East region and Latin America.

The company said Tuesday she will succeed retiring CEO Stephen Chazen no later than Occidental’s 2016 annual meeting. The company declined to give a more detailed timetable, referencing only a “thorough transition period.”

Chazen is 68, the company’s mandatory retirement age.
