UK goes to polls in General Election

Millions of people have begun casting their votes in the United Kingdom general election.
Polls opened at 07:00 BST at around 50,000 polling stations across the UK, which will remain open until 22:00.
A total of 650 Westminster MPs will be elected, with about 50 million people registered to vote.
As well as the general election, there are more than 9,000 council seats being contested across 279 English local authorities.

1. I thought 16/1 for an outright Labour victory might

be worth a bet, but I hope they don't get more than 290 votes, as I'm anxious that they should need the Scottish Nats, who should help to keep them honest; well, make them honest,actually, since their NuLab(c) atavism and recidivism need to be checked and remedied.

If Ed really is only Nu-ish Labour, now, it might be enough for a new start, but he will need Nicola Sturgeon (caviar for the general, indeed) and the SNP to twist his arm severely from time to time.

It's looking hopeful, though, with the backing of our pathological, crypto-fascist media, Cameron will try to remain in power with a minority.

2. 290 votes?

I presume that you mean 290 seats.

I'm not optimistic about the SNP's ability to work for the benefit of the whole of Britain, but Labour is paying the price for taking people in their Scottish heartlands for granted. And the chances are that they will also have to work with the Lib Dems, who might well want to push the government in the opposite direction to the one the SNP want.

I won't say what I'm hoping for as I don't want to give away my voting intentions too much, other then that I have been deciding based on what's on offer in the constituency where I live.

3. Good point ! There are plenty in the rest of Britain, apparently, who

wish they could vote SNP. 290 Lab seats is the maximum stated in a Guardian to ensure they would need the SNP ; above that, and they would only need the backing of the other, smaller parties to have a potential majority.
