Christie: I'm Ready To Move On From BridgeGate And 'Stop Apologizing'

DOVER, N.H. (AP) New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Friday that he's moving on from the bridge scandal that has badly tarnished his presidential prospects and is done apologizing for the actions of his former allies.
Christie was wrapping up a town hall event at Fury's Publick House bar in Dover Friday evening when he was confronted with the issue by a woman who said she was born and raised in New Jersey and was "beyond horrified" by the incident which she said reminded her of feudal times, when a king didn't care about his peasants.
"I'm worried about having a president who has people around him who think that that's OK," she said.
Christie had largely avoided the issue during his trip to New Hampshire. Last week, his former deputy chief of staff and a top appointee at the authority that controls the George Washington Bridge were indicted for shutting access lanes to the bridge to punish a Democratic mayor who declined to endorse Christie's re-election. Another former ally pleaded guilty.

(81,594 posts)Yeah I remember something about the antiseptic and untouchable "mistakes were made" and "I'm sorry somebody else over there somewhere fucked up." Oh yeah, I apologize! My bad! I forgot the most important one: "I'm sorry they disappointed me. I feel HURT!!!"
Yeah, you're certainly the poor helpless victim in this, aren't ya, Mr. Never-Will-Be-President.

(7,968 posts)I think he is probably guilty of much more than is publically known. I suspect an advisor or two took the fall for him. He didn't get "caught" but at least his administration did.
I think that as long as he sustains his campaign we should make sure this scandal bits at his heels the whole time. The guy is a strong arm tactic politician. That some voters can't see through him is surprising to me.

(81,594 posts)And on another score - a lot of people like him won't apologize because that's a republi-CON's "12th Commandment." "Thou shalt not admit to any fault, mistake, or wrong-doing." Pols like him won't admit they're wrong because they don't like the optics. They have to be "right" all the time. As purportedly "infallible" as the Pope. It also suggests weakness - especially in a bully's mind. He can't afford to look weak. He's absolutely combative and in-yer-face about it. I've rarely seen such public bullying - going on offense like that, actually telling somebody to sit down and shut up. Crude, bullying, and just asking to get karma raining down on him in some way.
And I do wonder why he feels compelled to act that way.

(22,169 posts)are not ready to move on 😊. Christie is unable to control his temper, so this will be fun.

(1,254 posts)There is no place to move away from in the cesspool of shit of his own creating. Any step he takes, he's still in the pool! All the inappropriate mishandling of funds, shady deals etcetera. For all his pretending that he is moving on, we still see and smell the sewage on him.

(91,005 posts)We need to have someone in every state who can do what that woman did: say "I'm from NJ, and..." and keep nudging him until he blows. Because he will blow, we know he will, and it needs to be pure Christie on camera: loud, rude, and bullying.

No more repeat offenders, or 3 strike prison sentences, or past DUIs.
And, as Obama put it, we would not have to "dwell on the past" of elected war criminals.

(3,595 posts)If I had the money and his N.H. schedule, I would dog him with signs outside of where he is speaking.
Two signs on a pole would do that.
N.J. under Chrisite ---
2nd highest unemployment in the U.S.
2nd worst pension fund in the U.S.
Highest property tax in the U.S.
On the other side of the sign
$7 million of N.J. tax money spent on Christie's legal defense.
$400,000 of N.J. tax money spent on Christie's helicopter rides.
$700,000 in security paid for his failing presidential bid.
$30 BILLION given away by Christie's administration in tax benefits to corporations.
I wish I had the money to do that.
Oh, well.

(5,946 posts)With the bridge when people ask about his closest allies being involved he says he was in charge but it was not his fault. Let me know if and when he ever apologizing for costing the state about 10 billion dollars through is bungling and giveaways to potential donors.
over a billion on cancelling the tunnel that is now so desperately needed and no longer funded
for the pension give away to his donors who higher fees and lower results has cost the system and estimated 2 billion dollars since that giveaway, = pension was not in good shape, but he has made it a disaster.
and of course the 8 billion giveaway to Exxon.

(133 posts)Maybe you would "cheer," but don't say "we." You don't speak for me. Your comment reminds me of the people who keep shouting "Jump!" to the guy on the window ledge. I don't care how fat or dishonest or stupid he is. Cheering a suicide is inhumane and depraved, and your post is extremely offensive.

(133 posts)The part where you say, "you get called on your merit in this life." If only that were true! But take George W. Bush, for example. I'll bet he hasn't had an unhappy day since he left the Presidency. There is no guarantee, natural or man-made, of the suffering of the wicked.

I can't help but believe that even some jack ass as dumb as W knows how bad he fook'd up.
