Former President Jimmy Carter cuts trip short because of illness
Source: CNN
Washington (CNN)Amid health concerns, former President Jimmy Carter had to cut his trip to Guyana short.
A statement released by the Carter Center said the former president "was not feeling well," but the organization did not provide more information about the 90-year-old's health.
Carter is expected to return to Atlanta on Sunday.
He was in the South American country to observe the upcoming election.
Although Carter won't be in Guyana during Monday's voting, the Carter Center, the nonprofit public policy foundation run by the former president, said he "is hopeful" about the election.
The group also called for the need for a "peaceful process before, during and after the election."

(41,205 posts)Running around to unstable parts of the world can't be easy at 90; so it may be only a relatively minor illness on top of all that. I hope it's nothing more serious than that.

Yeah, President Carter is worthy of our admiration and respect, though he's too humble to seek it.
Stay strong, sir! Your works aren't over yet.

(3,208 posts)He made a great impression on me when I was a teenager, despite what everyone else around me was talking about him.
He is a special favorite around our house because of the work he did with Habitat for Humanity and his mom with her work in the Peace Corps, both of which our family is involved with.
The world would have been a much better place now if he could have had another four years, but there is no profit in that!

Amazing how he's contributing more to the world right now at 90 than Clinton and Chimpo are at 68.

(9,298 posts)President Carter has been the most productive post-office president in our country's history. He IS Habitat for Humanity, for one thing.
Worldwide, an array of amazing accomplishments...clean drinking water, curing diseases, on and on.
He and Rosalyn are a model couple/partnership.
Get well soon, President Carter.
