Reid renews push to ban online gaming, maybe even poker

Source: Las Vegas Sun

Sen. Harry Reid is receptive of Sheldon Adelson's push to ban all forms of online gambling, including poker.

Reid said in an interview Monday that if he isn't able to get an exemption for poker from a proposed ban of online gaming making its way through Congress, he would consider supporting a full online gaming ban.

... The Senate minority leader’s comments give momentum to a federal ban moving through the House of Representatives, aided by the unlimited funding of Adelson, Las Vegas Sands' CEO and online gaming's biggest opponent.

... The position puts Reid at odds with most of the casino industry in Las Vegas, including Caesars and MGM Resorts, who see Internet gaming as a way to expand their brand to millennials increasingly disinterested in traditional slot machines.

Well, it's great to know you are in favor of people having freedom. Do you have such animus toward day trading because you lost? On what grounds would you like to suppress people's freedoms? Is it because gambling (which all trading is) does not just potentially harm the gambler but his family, etc? If so, I presume you must be in favor of banning all gambling in all forms. And, as alcoholism potentially hurts others, I guess you must be in favor of prohibition? Or maybe it's because you believe day trading is not an economically productive activity? If so, you should logically extend your restriction of people's behavior beyond gambling and drinking to include all other activities that you might consider to be economically useless.

Just so you know, I loathe your ignorant smugness. You are no different from Bible-bashers who rail against abortion, homosexuality, contraception or whatever activity other people engage in that meets with their disapproval.

Reid is Exhibit C on the list of professional politicians who answer to monied interest and pretend to be populist.

Thad Cochrin (R-MS) is Exhibit A. John Boehnner (R) is B. Saxby Chandless (R) is D.
