LINCOLN The Nebraska Legislature gave first-round approval Tuesday to a bill that would legalize medical marijuana in the state.
Sen. Tommy Garrett of Bellevue appealed to his colleagues to support Legislative Bill 643, called the Cannabis Compassion and Care Act.
"At the end of day, this has got to be about taking care of sick and ailing Nebraskans who have no other options," Garrett said. "Colleagues, this is not about stoners getting high."
Other lawmakers expressed concerns about approving a drug still classified as illegal, despite its acceptance as medicine in 23 other states.

After my email last Friday, several DUers sent me emails with links to studies that show my FTP would benefit from passage of this bill. I need three more votes.
