Union: Guadagno should explain why Christie short-changes education at RVCC graduation

RARITAN — — The union representing Raritan Valley Community College faculty on Wednesday took aim at Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno — who'll speak at the school's commencement ceremony Saturday — saying in an open letter she should confront its questions about Gov. Chris Christie's approach to education.

"We're concerned about the Christie administration's policy towards public education and public employees," said Maria DeFilippis, president of the Raritan Valley Community College Federation, which wrote the letter. The group is a part of the American Federation of Teachers New Jersey. "This is an opportunity for us to speak to the second in command.

"We just want to open a dialogue. She can listen to our concerns and we can listen to what the administration plans to do moving forward concerning these issues. We're looking for a dialogue, a discussion during her visit or in her commencement address."

The federation sent Guadagno a list of questions it wants her to address when she speaks before approximately 1,200 graduates during a ceremony on the soccer field at the college's Branchburg campus Saturday.
