At least 16 Miami Beach cops under investigation for racist, sexist emails

Two high-level former Miami Beach police officers sent hundreds of racist, pornographic and inappropriate e-mails to fellow cops, law enforcement officials said Thursday.
One of the e-mails sent by former Maj. Angel Vasquez also included an autopsy photo of Raymond Herisse, a motorist shot and killed by officers in a high-profile incident in May 2011.

Prosecutors have launched an investigation into whether the release of the autopsy photo broke any laws, and whether any of 16 officers who sent or received the e-mails under former police chief Raymond Martinez are now compromised as witnesses in criminal cases.
“Not only are we all offended by these e-mails, but this conduct seems to have been accepted by the department and permeated the highest ranks of the department,” said Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle.
The e-mails included numerous Internet “memes.” One featured an image of “Black Monopoly,” in which every board game square features a policeman saying “Go to Jail” Another showed cartoon character Bugs Bunny calling Daffy Duck a racial slur.
