(60,010 posts)I really admired her.
As a kid, I had an aunt who resembled her, so maybe that was part of the liking.

(9,686 posts)her being Irish Catholic and he being Jewish. That was quite the discussion back then and thankfully both Meara and Stiller just laughed it off and made jokes about it. End of discussion....lol.

(128,441 posts)Another gone from classic (performing) "couples". "Stiller & Meara" were like "Steve & Edie" and "George & Gracie" - an almost inseparable act. The interplay was always key. Of course Jerry was classic in Seinfeld with his Festivus for the rest of us.
Sorry to see Anne go and R.I.P.

(3,275 posts)She was a funny person and was a great part of a comedy team with her husband. May she rest in peace. I noticed that in the couples mentioned "Steve & Edie" and "George & Gracie" that the wife passed away before the husband.

(128,441 posts)in those instances, it was ladies first... With these two though, I always chuckled that he was feisty but she was feistier! They were quintessential "New YAWK".

(5,477 posts)I was in a little Broadway restaurant one night with a friend from work, after a theater preview (he also worked part-time as a theater critic, so we'd get the reviewer tickets and see a lot of shows). Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara were at the next table, and Woody Allen a few tables down. La Cage aux Folles was still a big hit, and the huge table at the back center of this place was 'permanently reserved for George Hearn's party'. Ms. Meara was very engaging and funny, and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening next to them.
