Fraternal Order of Police president rips Alan Grayson over ‘irresponsible’ tweet

Source: The Palm Beach Post

If Democratic Rep. Alan Grayson runs for Senate in 2016, his recent tweet with obscene graffiti disparaging police might make it tough for him to win the Florida Fraternal Order of Police endorsement.

Grayson used his Twitter and Facebook accounts on Saturday to criticize the militarization of local police forces and included a picture of police in riot gear pointing guns at a man with his hands up in Ferguson, Mo. On Twitter, the picture included a mailbox with graffiti saying “F— the Police.”

Florida State Fraternal Order of Police President Jim Preston today accused Grayson of contributing to bad relations between police and the public.

“Mr. Grayson’s irresponsible comments and photo completely disrespect the difficult and dangerous job of today’s police officers,” Preston told The Palm Beach Post in an email.

Normally I'm pro-union. But the FOP has aided and abetted corruption within law enforcement. They've enabled violent criminals to hide behind the badge while they terrorize the communities they're supposedly serving. And they fight tooth and nail against anyone who tries to make law enforcement hold themselves to the high standards that they should.

The Honorable President of the Fraternal Order of Police should clean up his own mess before worrying about other people's.

I'm no fan of that particular organization either--some of their rank-closing is just well, RANK--but I don't think Grayson helped himself at all with that kind of thing.

I'm wondering if he's given up on the idea of that Senate run. If he has, I know at least two people who will be disappointed at the lost opportunity to run for his vacant seat.

They need to do some self reflection as to why relations are bad. The FOP is blind to the problem.

The post 911 lauding of first responders has convinced them they can do no wrong.

This handy little dohickey is called a mirror. Kindly look in it before you complain about other people contributing to bad relations between the police and the public.

Thank you.

I can only imagine the things that he would say if he were President. The funny thing is, he's probably actually restraining himself a little.

A picture on Democratic Rep. Alan Grayson’s Twitter account criticizing police militarization and showing an obscene phrase was posted by his staff and wasn’t meant to offend anyone, Grayson’s office said Tuesday.

Grayson is firebrand, but this seems more like something a kid would do.

Of course my disdain for the FOP probably makes me a bit bias.

Please, your message is growing stale and go fuck yourself, we see your agenda now and you have no high ground to stand on.

Um, maybe shooting unarmed people, beating folks for doing nothing, arresting
CHILDREN...Maybe THAT could harm the perception.

Just sayin
