CONCORD, N.H. (AP) Former New York Gov. George Pataki is the latest Republican to get into the race for president.
In a video posted Thursday morning on YouTube, Pataki says America needs to recapture the spirit of unity that spread through the country in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. He was in his second of three terms as governor when the attacks struck New York and Washington, and Pataki highlights his role in New York and the country's recovery in the video.
"We are all in this together. And let us all understand that what unites us is so much more important than what might seem superficially to divide us," Pataki says in the video which includes a logo that reads, "Pataki for President."
Pataki is expected to formally announce his candidacy later Thursday. He's scheduled to speak in Exeter, New Hampshire, which served as the state capital during the Revolutionary War and claims to be the birthplace of the Republican Party.

(81,527 posts)I bet he'll start calling himself "America's Governor" in a riff off the spectacularly successful 9/11-laminated and tattoo'd rudy giuliani!

(17,469 posts)If he sincerely is running for president and thinks he can win (as opposed to doing it as a money-generating publicity stunt) then he is delusional.

Nixon was a paranoid crook but he was head and shoulders above the current crop.
I couldn't agree with anything Reagan believed in but he was charismatic and would be considered liberal by today's standards.
Under normal circumstances, Pataki would be a good candidate but he'll have to veer so far to the right to get any traction that he will look like a clown by 2016.
If I were a republican, I'd weep.

(34,485 posts)These meaningless, lame ass platitudes are one of my biggest pet peeves. I don't think Pataki has a snowball's chance in hell to win the nomination because he's not crazy enough for the baggers, but I'm sure it'll be a very lucrative proposition for him.
