US stocks open mostly higher; Europe, Asia indexes lower

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks are opening mostly higher as the market comes off a three-day losing streak.

United Natural Foods slumped 5 percent early Tuesday after the food distributor reported disappointing results and lowered its full-year forecast.

The Dow Jones industrial average edged up 31 points, or 0.2 percent, to 17,797 as of 9:35 a.m. Eastern time. The Dow turned negative for the year the day before.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index was up two points, or 0.1 percent, at 2,082. The Nasdaq composite fell three points, or 0.1 percent, to 5,017.
