IS claims capture of Libya's Sirte: SITE

Source: AFP

Dubai (AFP) - The Islamic State group claimed Tuesday to have seized full control of the Libyan city of Sirte from the Fajr Libya militia, including a power plant, according to a US monitor.

SITE Intelligence Group said the jihadist group had published photographs of "IS fighters engaged in clashes, sitting atop heavy guns, exploring the power plant and town, as well as bodies of dead Fajr Libya fighters".

Brzezinski : What is more important in world history? The Taliban or the collapse of the Soviet empire? Some agitated Moslems or the liberation of Central Europe and the end of the cold war?

5. Yes, Sisi did not have to worry about any Libyan intervention when he did his coup

And I think that is why Qaddafi had to go. Qaddafi has always had strong ties with the Moslem Brotherhood and in any Egyptian Coup, Qaddafi would have sent his army into Egypt. In the eyes of the CIA that would have been the worse possible situation. While the Officer corp of Egypt is anti-Moslem brotherhood, the enlisted ranks are viewed as very pro Moslem Brotherhood. Thus you saw massive use of troops under the direct command of their officers ding the coup, but most of the actual violence tied in with the coup was done by either special forces OR the re invented Egyptian Police. The officer corp did NOT trust their troops in such a coup (in fact during the previous revolt against Mubarak, the troops ended up sitting in their tanks and watching the government collapse, they just refused to open fire, thus in the Sisi Coup special forces had to be used along with the Police instead of trusting the Army).

Now, the fear of the Officer Corp was if Qaddafi moved his troops into Egypt to support the Moslem Brotherhood, the Egyptian Army would be sent to stop those troops, but the enlisted ranks would just surrender to the Libyans and leave the officers on their own. In effect the further the Libyans would move into Egypt, the stronger they would become. The Egyptian Army would survive, but be lead by Libyan officers. Qaddafi would NOT stay in Egypt, he would turn it back over to the Moslem Brotherhood and go back to Libya, and been seen by the people of Egypt as a great liberator for Morsi would then have been able to abolish the remains of Mubarak's old reign and rule with his elected Congress in a way he had promise to do so in his election.

That was the fear that forced the CIA (and it appears Saudi Arabia) to get rid of Qaddafi. Qaddafi gone meant no Libyan intervention during any subsequent coup in Egypt. Qaddafi was never going to invade Egypt UNLESS he had massive support among the Egyptians themselves for the invasion. Thus as long as Morsi and the Moslem Brotherhood controlled the Government of Egypt, Qaddafi was NOT going to intervene. During the revolt that lead to the end of Mubarak's rule, I suspect Qaddafi had plans to intervene, but only if the revolt was suppressed (and I suspect one of the reasons the Revolted succeeded was the Egyptian Army had to consider what they would do in a Libyan intervention, and all they saw was a massive defeat for the officer corp of the Egyptian Army thus they could do NOTHING on the lack of "spirit" by the enlisted ranks to suppress the revolt).

Thus Qaddafi had to go, to prevent such a Libyan intervention. Notice once Qaddafi was gone, Egypt had its Sisi Coup. I do NOT believe that is coincidence, it was part of an overall plan to get rid of Morsi worked out by the CIA, the House of Saud and the Egyptian Officer Corp).
