Michigan Governor Signs Law Allowing Adoption Agencies To Reject LGBT Parents
Source: BuzzFeed
Gov. Rick Snyder signed a package of three bills into law Thursday that would allow publicly funded adoption agencies to turn away parents on religious grounds.
Critics uniformly contend the measures are tailored to let agencies refuse adoption to LGBT couples. Republican proponents argued they were protecting people of faith and resisting an attack from LGBT advocates.
Snyder, a Republican, issued a statement that said the laws were putting Michigan children first in adoption, foster care practices.
The state has made significant progress in finding more forever homes for Michigan kids in recent years and that wouldnt be possible without the public-private partnerships that facilitate the adoption process, Snyder said. We are focused on ensuring that as many children are adopted to as many loving families as possible regardless of their makeup.

In April, he made a statement: "Given all the events that are happening in Indiana, I thought it would be good to clarify my position," he said. "I would veto RFRA legislation in Michigan if it is a standalone piece of legislation."
I guess that position was clarified, if temporary.

Why should the eligious beliefs of the adoption provider matter. The legal standard is the best interest of the child. What happens when the legal beliefs of the provider clash with the best interest of the child who is denied a loving home?
