Sales of Confederate flags are soaring

Source: Yahoo finance

Alotta Signs of Sparks, Nev., typically sells about five Confederate flags per week. On Monday, however, 46 orders came in. Then South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley called for removing the stars and bars from her state's capitol grounds. The next morning, Alotta Signs logged 200 orders for Confederate flags, most of them through Amazon (AMZN). “We don’t even have the lowest price,” says Dave Pearson, owner and president of the company. “It’s nuts.”

The threat of scarcity often leads to a run on products -- such as guns, with sales typically spiking when there's talk of tightening regulations after mass shootings. And that appears to be the case for the Confederate flag, now under assault in the aftermath of the murder of nine worshippers at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston.

(snip)

Walmart (WMT) and Sears (SHLD) said they would no longer sell Confederate flag merchandise. But other retailers are benefiting from the controversy. On Monday, before Haley announced her change in position on the flag (which still must be approved by the state assembly), Amazon listed two Confederate flags among the 60 bestselling items under “Outdoor Flags and Banners”: one at the No. 5 spot, and one at No. 43. The following morning, five of the top 20 bestsellers in the category were Confederate flags, including the No. 1 bestseller, a 3-by-5 foot polyester model made by Rhode Island Novelty and sold by a company called Anley. Among the top 60, 12 were versions of the Confederate flag.

Question with that one, which stats proved, was that it was people who already owned guns buying MORE.

I would guess it it probably true for Confederate Flags also.

1. Racists need them to self-identify.
2. Some may want them for use as toilet paper or a shop rag.
3. They make excellent door mats.
4. They are purrfect as a liner for the kitty box.
5. You never know when you may have opportunity to shove a wad of one in Rush Limbaugh's mouth.
6. Much fun to burn them.

Seriously - if they want to 'wall paper' their living room with it - or 'paint' their house with a Confederate Flag - fine by me.

Just don't use it a place where you distribute Federal Tax dollars (A state house).

and there are tons of confederate flags and shirts with confederate flags on them too.

When Walmart did it, I double checked them too. They even removed shirts with it on it, right after they said they would. I'm talking minutes. It was all gone.

It's pretty bad when Walmart does the right thing and Amazon cannot be counted on to do the right thing even after they said they would. That really sucks.

Buy it, fly it in your yard or at your business, just don't have it in a sovereign position on government property, which belongs to everyone.

One of the most effective arguments against legislators who want to have the flag accepted as a state symbol has been to ask them why they don't fly it on their own property. An honest answer would be, "Cause I'm just pandering to the worst of my base. I don't want to look like an idiot and turn off a lot of voters by having that on my property."

A fella would think, if you wanted you a gen-yoo-wine Confederate Flag, you'd want it made out of cotton, picked by authentic Black People not newfangled mechanical contraptions made by that Northern rapscallion John Deere, rather than Yankee abominations like synthetic fabrics.
